What I find most fascinating about this is that this delay is 3 months in advance. They're almost a quarter of a year away and they're already so sure they won't finish it they've pushed it back another 2 months.
Valve has self-esteem issues.

Uh, yes. The whole game is delayed. Usually when there is a delay, it affects all platforms.

Personally, I really like the "It's done when it's done" attitude. I've seen enough good games soiled because of an early release date.

Additionally, I'd rather have a developer put out 1 - 2 great games in a year than 3 - 4 crappy ones.

Actually, no. They managed to release L4D2 on time so I was starting to have some faith in them, but I guess this is a "bigger" game.

Well, I'm just happy they're not rushing it.

Wrong. L4D2 was delayed 2-3 hours.

I agree, but 1-2 games in a year is a little ambitious for Valve.

Supposedly pre-production began at the same time as ep1 and the ep1 team has been working on it since ep1 was released in 2006, which is just even more rediculous.

imo, the only thing that could create such a huge time sink would be a new engine.

And, eew, ep1 team, ep1 was the bastard son of the Half Life series.
