Accepting Nominations for Featured Custom

As many of you know, I has a server. I'm still experimenting with different ways to try and get people on it. This week I tried Meridian 24/7, and while everyone I've been on the server with liked the map it didna fill it. I myself don't spend a lot of time on 24/7 servers, so I'm planning on a more conventional rotation for next week. I still want to sneak some customs in though, so I was thinking I'd feature a custom map from one of us TF2maps people every week in the rotation.

So, that's what this thread is about

I'd like to get some nominations for what map I should feature in the rotation next week (my weeks start on Monday). I going to have the following rules for submission:
1. You cannot nominate your own map - (in fears that we'd have 1 nomination from each author for their map).
2. If Bob nominates your map, you can't nominate his. However, if Bob nominates your map, and you nominate Steve's map, Steve can nominate Bobs map...so if you guys are going to conspire to rig the nominations it's going to take at least 3 of you :woot:

At this point I'm also open for suggestions for the non-custom rotation. Right now I'm leaning towards:

Badwater
turbine
Dustbowl
custom
cp_well

From my experience if your server is low in rando population you should generally stay away from large file sizes (ie Meridian) and run smaller, simpler maps. Warpath, Turbine, and Lazytown are all good populators.

My map pl_Swift is proving to be fairly popular. It is a very small download (8 megs) and on a fast download players hardly even notice their joining bar doing anything different.

I'll be releasing a V2 after the scout update, so if you have any feedback lemme know and I'll try to work it in.

Ok dammit! people keep bringing up warpath (points finger at Icarus) for custom rotations.

And I keep boycotting it because it's ugly and the gameplay is just one long chokepoint.

But I give in.

I nominate Warptah TF2. It's a new version that I recently saw on FPSBanana that has been revised into a much more TF2 look.
I haven't played it yet but if you are gonna put warpath up at least give us a little change and let us see how this one plays.

Note that the whole "phantom player" thing can often be people that are still downloading the map. (I know that I've got players on mine that have *super* slow connections for downloading, and usually I have them download the map ahead of time outside of the game, since otherwise their download would finish when we're ready to change map again.) If people are ever cranky about such a thing, tell them to do a "status" on the console, that'll tell you exactly how many people are connected.

I'm not exactly boycotting FPS banana, but I'd rather feature maps from people that hang here

I like stock, and I'll say I like customs...but not mariokart customs, or melee map customs...I guess you could say I like valve-ish customs, and I suspect the ppl that like stock maps will too...save for the DL part....which is why I'm going to give just 1 custom a week a go....1 quick DL and you're good for a week and broadening your horizons at the same time.

Oh yikes, you were serious about that stuff.

Um, I think Oilfield is under-rated and could fit in nicely if you are determined to run a linear CP map.

I run a mixed 28 player server for calculatedChaos

It is really hard to get servers filled up when you want them to be, especially if it is a custom map. If you have a good base of regulars, gradually people will start coming to your server more often. Since I am trying to grow my community with an emphasis on custom maps, I have been working on getting more involved with that community.

My server certainly isn't the most successful out there but during the times I want to play I usually find between 10 and 28 people to play with and have a good time. Since it is a community thing, most of us know each other so it definitely helps with the comradery.

Anyway, you now have my 2 cents.

fwiw - i've added swift to the rotation even though the mapper made me go to fps banana to get it, and didn't bother putting it in bz2 format :cursing:
