a little help for a newbie

hey! i just started mapping today, so ive been reading tuts on how to do things, but for me it's hard to tell whats TF2 and whats CSS/HL2 textures. so, is there a way to delete all the textures except TF2's, or to filter them out? i'll never need HL2 textures, since i never play it or CSS, fyi :D

at the bottom of the texture window theres a textbox that says 'keywords' (or something similar) type "tf" in there

It's not "frozen" per-say... just stuck thinking because it has to read every single material to look for the TF keyword, give it some time... a few minutes.

finally! it works :D

i had to try 2 times, waiting about 5 mins each, but its finally showing tf2 textures xD

thx for the help, ill be sure to come here if im in need of more help.

Sometimes, not often its quite rare, when I try that it freezes up and crashes hammer, so I've taken to saving just before I try.
I'm a CTRL+S freak :) I save after practically everything its insane.

I had this problem too, with it "freezing". The reason it's doing that is that you haven't got anything in the filter box and it's loading every TF2 texture there is. I just put something in the filter as well, usually "glass" (no reason, just habit) and then put "tf" in the keyword box and that has helped keep the "freezing" thing from happening. As long as you have something in the filter box, it should work faster.

Hey, I should add to this...

There are some textures you'll need that don't fit under the "tf" keyword. They're universal and for every game, so you'll need to remove the "tf" every once in a while to find them. They're tool textures like "TRIGGER", "NO DRAW", "CLIP", and others. You'll need those textures sometime before the map's done.
