I'll point out again that I have a big dedicated box in dallas with room for like 10 more servers that gets decent pings everywhere in the states and most of canada.

As for finding a box that pings well EVERYWHERE... good frigging luck. I spent over 20 hours doing ping tests just to make everyone in the states happy with our dallas provider.

You need to separate servers by location at some point.

How about we average the distances, make the euros move to Pluto (NOT A PLANET), and put it here!

I get about 9ms consistently on that server. I ran ping about 15 times, and it never spiked once.

Server hosted on a satellite, and a contest decides which region gets good ping for a week.

should probably also mention that flat maps are terrible to judge distance with.

Someone needs to whip out a globe.

Or this.

Sometimes I think people forget that the globe is not flat.

Whilst you are all are complaining about your horrible 100+ ping *GASP!!!* may I point out that living in Australia (the country that should obviously host the server) i rarely get under 250... and now thanks to people kicking other people out of major political seats, we won't be getting our Australia-wide-uber-fast-network any time soon to fix that up.

EDIT: In conclusion, stop complaining, I manage to live with it, even with the new server wrecking my ping more

I'm not quite sure what the problem is with the new server, but it sure is annoying. Half the time I get ~70 ping (from Florida), then the other half it almost triples. It doesn't affect gameplay that much (to me, at least), but imagine if other EU/AUS players would get that? 500 ping doesn't turn me on.

Solution: everybody donate one million dollars [/drevil] to TF2M. DRP will then use the money to a) buy an unlimited supply of cookies for himself or b) create a floating island with its own ecosystem, server, and living quarters for 900 of us to use as the official TF2M Floating Fortress. Each active member of TF2M will be transported via private shuttle onto the island, where he/she will be provided with a state-of-the-art gaming computer with 1024 gigs of HD space to store all maps on. With the small size of the island, we will be able to maintain twelve, maybe thirteen servers, on which each member will play with a ping of 11 or less. Let's hope for the latter.
