What FPS config do you use?

A lot of players are currently using an FPS config or competitive config to help them get an FPS boost. I'm wondering what you guys use.

Also, do any of you use a config that boosts your FPS but doesn't reduce the graphics to shit-tastic quality?

Basically I want one that will boost my FPS without lowering my graphics my much.

I use all at MAX, AA x8, AF x16, Reflections and all kinds of effecs enabled at max. And I get +120 FPS playing Valve maps. My computer costs around 1000$ which isn't much, but I built it from pieces.

Well, I'm telling you, I use max quality config because I get very high FPS with it, i don't need any kind of competitive config which totally destroys the charm of the game.

1. I wish I had your comp I got this laptop for near $1500 and it only does half of what your can.

2. Comp configs don't ruin the charm of the game, an FPS of 10 does.

I just purchased the 4850 off of newegg, and it's 120$ CAD, after a 30$ Rebate.

Great price.

Most fairly recent graphics cards have no trouble maxing out tf2 at 1920X1200 (aside from 2x AA, and 4X AF), and other source games and handing out great framerates, hell the 3870 I have now maxes out tf2 and l4d, and the framerates rarely become unplayable.

As for configs, I never got the point in using them over the base settings we already have available to us.

If it's that bad, try running it in dx8? idk

Lol, I need the laptop for school, I realize desktops are a million times better, and I was understating what my comp can do to prove a point.

The reason to use configs is that they get rid of and or tweak minor things to get the extra fps. Like gibs and bodies disappear quickly, eyes don't follow you, mouths don't animate in game, explosion marks disappear soon.

So very small and superficial stuff gets edited down for a great FPS and most people that use this have a low end PC.

But there are configs that make the game play much smoother that don't ruin the graphical quality and I was wondering if any of you guys knew any of them.

Intel Pentium 4 2.40GHz
1024MB RAM
Nvidia GeForce 7800 GS OC
Windows XP Professional

This ancient machine still lets me run TF2 with 4x AA, 16x Anisotropic Filtering, "High" graphical settings, HWMorph models, 1280x1024 fullscreen. A few stutterbugs here and there, but it's still great.

Core 2 Quad 2.4ghz (Was OC'ed to 3.0)
4gb ram
Nvidia GeForce 9800GTX+ 1gb ^_^
Windows 7
Runs TF2 at 1280x1024, 16xaa, 16x filtering, everything else at highest setting, and I get about 100fps average, although it often gets up to about 2-300.

My old computer..... well......
1.7ghz Celron
512mb ram, eventually upgraded to 1gb.
64mb Geforce 4
30fps average....
I had everything on lowest, and had a decal limit of 100. Aside from loading times beinf 5-10 mins to launch game and about 5 mins to load a map, it was reletavitely playable

Thing is, you have to cut down so much little stuff just to improve your framerate at all, the following eyes, and facial animations really do not have that big a negative impact on your framerate. Bodies I can understand though, those are a lot of useless triangles getting rendered/textured, so by all means kill those, but don't bother with the super small stuff, chances are it won't impact your performance in any significant way anyway.

Just for our own reference though, what are the specs of the pc you're using to run tf2?

on my desktop I run a Q6600 oc'd to 3.2 and a 9800 GTX oc'd 20% higher on my gaming monitor, and i run tf2 at max setting 1680 x 1050, get between 60 and 120 fps on valve maps

on my laptop I have a 9750M and a intel core 2 duo @ 2.0, and I run tf2 at max settings 1280x1000 (1000 might be a bit off, i don't use my laptop often), get between 50 and 70 fps on valve maps

I have a Dell XPS M1530. Very sexy laptop.

Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T9300 @ 2.50GHz with a CPU speed of 2.49 GHz Performance Rated at 6.17 GHz

3.5 GB of ram

NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT (GeForce 8600M GT) with 1.7 GB of video ram

I can assume the graphics card is what's holding the rig down?

I hate your processor for that.... not because of the processor, more because of its user even wanting to do that.

I'm evil like that! MUAHAHAHA! No, I wanted to see what the portal flow for cp_well was. Next on the list, copy and pasting pl_hoodoo and pl_goldrush into one vmf. and compiling. While using the environmental library! >:)

I don't really understand the 6.17 GHz thing. But you should be able to play TF2 at max settings with a 8600 and that processor.
