Hammer is being an idiot

Hello, I have a number of ramp-like blocks in my level. I have them touching at the vertices but when I save and test the map, they're no longer touching at the corners.

When I load Hammer back up, they're no longer connected in there either.

Anybody know why the heck Hammer is doing this? :cursing:

Is "Snap to Grid" box enabled?

It is but my screenshot is zoomed in with the smallest grid size possible and you can see that the second vertex is not aligned with the grid.

I turned snap to grid off and tried and still no go.

Have you vertex manipulated them? You might have made them invalid, alt+P to check. If that's the case what is happening when you reopen a file is they are being validated. You'll need to restructure them a little to fix it.

Did you use the arch tool for a circle staircase and then smoothened it by vertexing. Then the couse is easy. You made some faces that arent flat and need a bend in it. This isnt possible for the compile to fix it and so it pick one edge and aligns it back so its a flat face again. this can couse that effect.

The fix is that you need to make the stairs out of triangles and not squares by using the clipping tool (you just cut them in halve at the corners). triangles after all allways have a flat face no matter where the vertexes are.

I see, thank you. This is gonna be a huge pain in the butt to replace all of these ramps.

I've used wedge brush shapes to build my ramps, rather than cutting rectangles. I find that more intuitive, less finicky.

Are there performance reasons to cut instead?

Well I was trying to make sort of a quarter-circle of ramps with the arch cause I'm making a spiral. Though in the end I just chopped out one section of the arch and copy-pasted it. That bit me in the butt though lol

No, only the final shape matters, not how you got there.

Personnally I do almost all of my brushwork with vertex-edited cubes. I only use clipping to trim stuff off (i.e. fit one piece into a hole), not as a shape drawing tool. And I always start with cubes because everything else is annoying (wedges are never in the right direction, cones are not at the right angle, etc).

But in the end it doesn't matter as long as the result is here.

Okay, I used wedges this time and had the same problem

Why is hammer doing this to me T_T

Heres another pic

Trying to adjust just that one ramp to being a square there, it reverts to that awkward shape.

I tried again with blocks and it happened again eventually. I think I'm just gonna have to start over
