How to handle map versions

I was wondering if there is a preferred method of posting the next version of a map?

For example with my current map is on it's second alpha version. (_a2) I've a thread in the Maps section, and the map itself in the Downloads area.

When I have _a3 ready, should I edit the first post in each spot to just say _a3, delete the old _a2.bz2, and replace it with the _a3.bz2?

Or should I add a completely new file in the downloads section, leave the old version in place, and change the thread in Maps to point to the new file?

I don't see any reason to keep old versions. In the showcase forum, it should just be called mapname. Then select the correct type (cp, ctf), and there's a spot for version. when you do an update, edit the original post to add stuff, then post at the bottom saying "updated to version yada" or what haveyou.

In the download section, go to "my files" and, select your map, and then hit edit and upload the new version.

Does the upload to an existing map automatically replace the old version?

I'm with you, in that I see little reason to keep an old version available. (The sooner my mis-steps are out of sight the better! :blushing: )

If you add a new file to the database the old one will still exist. Either delete it and make a new one, or edit the old one and upload a new file which will replace the old. (only difference is the download count is preserved if you edit)

I think this is what I did when going from _a1 to _a2. Thanks. I was wondering if I had somehow orphaned that old file and left it wasting space somewhere.
