That's hardly the reason anyone here is objecting or expressing any dismay. Some of the reasons are selfless: someone may simply want recognition to go to a map or mapper that he or she thinks deserves it more. Some are a little closer to home: someone (like me) may not want Valve to send the wrong message to the kind of crowd who does play on stock-only servers and already is prone to dismissing custom maps as poor quality and not worth their time.
I have to agree with Shmitz's point here. It's already hard enough to find a good customs server, and with what VALVe is packing into the updates, it might not get any better.
