Bring back hunted!!!

I am frustrated that there has not been a major VIP map or server out there yet!! I used to play hunted in TFC so much and I miss the action! I know there are people who miss it, there were so many servers running hunted!

So I was thinking that maybe we could brainstorm a new kind of mode that has the some ideas from hunted.

I really loved that last moment in the hunted where the president is running out in front of everyone, comlpetely naked, running towards that cargo hold. It got me thinking; what if there were two teams, each with a VIP, offense, and defense?

  • Each team would have a VIP (engineer) that they would need to get to a single point
  • VIP could only use melee weapon (always crits)
  • VIP can build dispensers(can't heal or give ammo) to get to strategic points, teleporters to get teammates to front lines
  • Each team would have an offensive team (spy, sniper, scout)
  • Each team would have a defensive team (soldier, heavy, medic, pyro, demoman)

I was thinking that the map itself would be a long, almost symmetrical level where the teams are running in one direction to get to a point. Some rooms would put the teams into battles, other times you would be trying to secure the next strategic point. I thought about having capture points that allow the teams a better respawn point, but I don't know how hard that would be to put in the game.

Anyone interested in helping me get the rules of this game worked out? Maybe even get a map running?

Essentially, it's impossible soley on map-based work. There is no way to detect a specific class, so any method of "marking" the VIP couldn't be restricted. Nor would there be a way to disable a dispenser functionality or give 100% crits. Any sort of VIP map would be drastically different from TFC's.

I was just wondering, .nav files are essentially codes right?
Because than you could code custom entities right?
Correct me if i'm wrong, but than you could do a vip thing.
You still have to limit the "ViP" class server side, but you really could do more than.

I've been thinking about my idea more and more. I just imagine a team completely surrounding an engineer, moving forward as a blob of bullets and fire... and there is a team opposite them doing the exactly the same thing: rushing to a last point where they can kill the other team at the flick of a switch, as long as they are there in time.
I was thinking that there would need to be some way to distinguish which classes are being played. For example, only allowing snipers or spies into the sniper/spy spawn.

I don't think griefing would be a problem because of vote kick on servers :p

Yeah welll... there's evidence that Valve is working to bring back Hunted themselves, along with a new civilian class (something to do with finding hints for the civilian in the danish translation of TF2)

There is already a hunted mod and map. mSleeper of f7lans coded most of it and he was working on the map. admittedly he didn't get very far but right at the top of the server browser (with lots of spaces in front of its name) is a 24/7 hunted server.

It's in everybody's folder, says something along the lines of "As a civilian, wait for your team to clear an area before moving on."

I guess I was more suggesting a hunted modification, not a port of the original. I just love the idea of two blobs of people trying to protect this engineer running and fighting side by side as they rush to hit this button.

They never said they replaced Hunted with Payload... that interview was taken too literally.
