Anyone have problems with models in the TF2 workaround?

The only models I can actually get working are some handrails and the sewer cap. The rest either come up as Error loading studio model when the map compiles or end up as the ERROR model while playing but, they all show up fine in hammer.

Just wondering if this is a common problem or if theres a workaround for the workaround (gotta love Valve).

i have also had trouble having some models show up ingame. not sure what the deal is tho. maybe we are using models that arent packed with the bare tf2 release?

When you place a prop, the model has to match the type of prop entity. For example, if I want to add a generator to my map, I have to select either prop_dynamic or prop_static. I know this because:

In the info tab, it tells you the types of prop entities that model supports. Most support prop_dynamic, but there are a few exemptions.

Hope that helps!

That's not always true though. I've run into many props that have static checked but won't show up as a static.

Unfortunetely, this is just a biproduct of the hack. As it stands, most props need to be dynamic or they won't load. Fraid there's no help for it atm :(

Ah, it is? That's good to know. Though I've read that statics might be turned off if someone's video settings are low enough... haven't confirmed that yet.

Static props are the least expensive, usually. Stuff like the radar dish and missile will cost more than normal. So on low-end systems, statics tend to have a much shorter draw distance. That is, the object won't render for the player until he is very close to it, which helps performance for the crappy computers. Your best bet is make everything a static prop for starters, b/c there are a few which accept it. Upgrade to dynamic as needed.

You can't make static props in TF2 until you get the workaround (unless you use HL2 props). Static props are ideal for interiors, like chairs and what not. Also keep in mind, make sure all the beer cans and bottles you put in are prop_physics because nothing sucks more than shooting a bottle and it either vanishing or nothing happening to it. Nothing...
