There are a few things about those No Heroes guys that will never change. They love their Warpath, and they love the holidays.

Every year they host a holiday version of Warpath for both Halloween and Christmas. This year they want to see a Holiday Warpath map decorated and textured by the talented TF2 mapping community.

Since none exist, they'll settle for TF2M! (ouch!).
A Grand Prize will be awarded to the winner of each category: Halloween Warpath and Christmas Warpath. Enter one, or both!

Think you have what it takes?

How To Enter

1. Click here to go to the No Heroes Forums and create an account (preferably using your exact Steam name).

2. Name your maps [YOURFORUMNAME]_xmaswp.bsp OR [YOURFORUMNAME]_halloweenwp.bsp (to help identify who the author is).

3. All the instructions for any requested testing dates/times, as well as a Contest FAQ are located in the TF2 Mapping Contest forum. That's it!

The contest will run from July 1st, 2011 to October 1st, 2011. All entries must be submited by 11:59 PM EST on October 1, 2011. Late entries will not be judged. We highly suggest you play on our warpath server to get a feel for the map if you have never played it before. Good luck to everyone!

Judging Criteria

Each submitted (final) map version, for both mapping contests, will be evaluated and scored by the No Heroes community on a scale of 1 to 10 (1 being the lowest, 10 being the highest) based on the following criteria:

1. Creative use of No Heroes name and/or logo
2. Faithfulness to recognized Warpath game mechanics
3. Use of holiday-themed content
4. Use of custom models and/or textures
5. Map optimization and performance
6. Use of custom sounds and/or soundscape(s)
7. Map stability (for 32 player environment)
8. Skybox appearance
9. Lighting
10. General creativity

The base map we use, as well as well as the two holiday maps from last year, are both available in the contest section of our forum.

Good luck to everyone that chooses to enter!

P.S. A big thanks to drp and all the good folks at TF2Maps.net for your consideration.

age limit seems a bit... odd of a regulation.

Because there is a prize with an actual monetary value, we have to adhere to the law of the land. While I would be more than happy to throw open the doors to anyone and everyone (and I'm sure there are some very talented mappers under the age of 18), we always run our rules for anything of this nature past our legal guy.

At any rate, I hope that that won't stop any eligible folks from giving it a serious look. :thumbup1:

Warpath, warpath... sounds familiar... *Googles* ...oh yeah, that one. I forget, is that one of those imported-from-Classic maps that turned out to play like crap, or just one with lazy detailing?

Sadly this is the horrible one made by some guy on fpsbanana, as i doubt there is need to have artpass on Fishbus's version.
Also, still can't understand the age limit, we had plenty contest here that reward people with stuff worth of money, but we never put age limit on those contest.

I just want to say that I"m disappointed that you would work with another community on a contest that excludes a vast majority of the community here. You may be fostering better relations with them, but you're turning away a number of your own members.

I'm not going to be entering this because I don't want to encourage more people to play Warpath. Whatever floats your boat I suppose.

Nah I wasn't suggesting that, just mentioning that I am pretty partial to Fishbus' 5cp version.

Wasn't there once a 7 CP version? That was weird.

I don't want to get too far off point here, but I want to address this to avoid any misconceptions.

First, I think that saying people under the age of 18 represent the vast majority of TF2maps.net might be overstating it a bit. I want to stress that that exclusion was not made with any kind of malicious intent. Again, I would love to have it open to anyone and everyone, regardless of age, but there ARE legal ramifications to giving prizes over a certain monetary value to people under the age of 18 without parental consent (at least in the United States). Again, this is why we (as a community) always run these types of things past our legal counsel. Believe it or not, in some states, you actually have to register with the secretary of state if any prize(s) are over a certain monetary value (which is where the phrase "Void where prohibited" comes in). So, again, this is not something we decided to do to arbitrarily exclude people, and I wish it wasn't necessary at all. Do some groups/communities ignore that kind of thing? I'm sure they do....but we live in a litigious society, and I think it's better to be safe than sorry.

Believe it or not, as big of a fan of warpath as I am, I can understand your sentiment. There are plenty of maps that we host that I shake my head at when people say how much they love them. I've never understood the appeal of 2Fort for example....and the very thought of setting foot on Orange makes me cringe. BUT....I also recognize that it's important to appeal to as many players in our community as we can, which is why we host servers for both of those maps, as well as 24-player "Vanilla" servers for the purists, and just about everything in between. I've always thought TC hydro was hugely underrated as well (both as a map, and a game mode), but that's neither here nor there.

Part of helping to run a community the size of ours is trying to appeal to a broad base of players, while keeping things fresh and interesting.

SO...while I know Warpath appeals to a very limited set of players, I hope that some of the talented folks here can see the contest for what it is - simply a fun way to bring a new perspective to a community's favorite map. In excess of 50,000 players hit our holiday warpath maps every year, and it is a pretty special time of year for our community.

It's not overstating. A large part of this community (at least the ones that are active in the chat room and on a day-to-day basis) is under 18.

Also, I'd like to see actual documentation showing that this kind of action is required for prizes in contests like this in the US, I wasn't aware of any rules like that, although there may be rules that dictate that which I'm aware of (this is very possible).

A bit off topic but it's relevant to our interests here.

NoHeroes, how high up in the administration of No Heroes are you? Are you a lowly admin who volunteered to speak with us, or are you one of the top people who know what's going on in their community.

Also, do you guys have servers that allow alpha map testing, or does your playerbase prefer detailed betas. Whether it's alphas or betas, could you provide a link to your forum, or an admin to contact, to request the addition of a map to any custom servers you own and run.

Oh and I see you're a sponsor. Thanks.

@NoHeroes,

Thanks for the reply about the legal issues with <18 year old entrants, it's good to have that cleared up. And you're right it is better to be safe than sorry. The rest of the issue with warpath is mostly a matter of what you consider a good map/fun/worthy, etc, is just opinionated. Everyone's got opinions on what they like (I love Hydro as well, btw, I think it's underrated too!)

But I think Konata's comment wasn't directed at you, but instead at the idea that while we understand that the under 18 rule isn't going to change/not up for debate, it's still pretty disappointing. And there are a lot of members who are under 18, and while there's no way to get the full count, I'm pretty positive that it's more than half at least.

The thing that concerns me about the discussion in this thread though, is the idea is being conveyed that we're not allowed to share opposing opinions about the rules (whether or not anything can be done about it). I've already seen 1 comment deleted for this reason. Censoring your own members because it looks bad in a thread for another community? That's not going to send the right message to anyone.
