Map submission deadline for Game Day XIII is Friday May 30th @ 5:30 pm EST (sorry folks on the west coast, but that's my time zone)

Game Day XII Recap

  • Saturday went well from what I can remember, it was a long, long day. I was there for almost all the maps.
  • Sunday I was asleep through most of when the game day was supposed to happen and I am not sure exactly what went wrong but to make a long story short, it didnt happen. I think the problem was that I did not give them enough time to prepare the server so I am going to make sure I PM Colt today.

    • Start with testing maps, 30 minutes a map flexibly guaranteed (If we are running way off schedule, deal with it all maps are recorded by Source TV).

Game Day Plan and Rules, Read these or I sic DJive on you.

  • Use either the TF2Maps.net website, FPSBanana, or a private website to host your maps. Do not use Rapidshare or other crappy filehosts.
  • Before your submission is accepted there must be a downloadable version of your map.
  • All map names must follow the guidelines specified in this thread.
  • All debate over what maps are submitted, what maps are played, etc. must be handled in this thread PRIOR to the game day. Once the map submission deadline is passed the rotation is set. Map rotation changes will not happen on the actual game day unless there are technical difficulties. If you have a problem with a map, voice your concerns prior to the game day.
  • Game Day Structure:
    • The game day has two parts, testing, fun play.
      1. Map testing, takes place first, all maps submitted for testing purposes will receive 30 minutes of play time. Map testing slots will be assigned on a first come / first served basis. I will attempt to accommodate time preferences to a limited extent.
      2. Fun / General play time, any maps that general users want to play together on certain maps.
  • Map Submission Structure:
    • * Map Name (ex. ctf_mycoolmap_b2 )
    • * Link to map download
    • * Map is for testing: Yes / No

Haha, thanks for being extra clear this time Paul. To be fair, I am considering law school :)

And yay for gameday this weekend, I was looking for something interesting to do before finals hit.

looking forward to it

by the way - we found out that mani was the reason for server crashes - and only if someone tried to record a demo.

we've moved to source mod admin now and all is working well

Folks, I have said it before, and I will say it again. If you do not have a final release of your map, I will not be adding you to the schedule. The version you link to in your post is the version that will be added.

Placeholder maps and temporary maps will not be accepted.

So it cant be a beta or alpha map? Is there a limit in how many maps we play?

I never said that, what I said was that I will only add people to the list when they post a link to the map they want to actually submit to the game day.

*edit* Ok, I did say "Final Release" what I meant by that was a final copy of the release version you want played during the game day

In other words, dont try to submit a map saying, "Well, I am going to finish a new version of my map sometime this week, so reserve a slot for me"

Dont submit a map saying, "Well, I am going to make a new build and submit that, but here is a temporary version of the map".

If you are going to submit a map, submit the version of the map you want to be played on the game day.

I am not doing this because I am lazy, but because it is only fair for other people who want to get their maps played. The earlier you submit, the earlier in the rotation you will be, and the more people will play your map. So submitting a placeholder map is unfair to the people who are actually taking the time to finish their game day versions and get them submitted.

Colt: So SourceTV is working again on the server? Fantastic if so!

Unfortunately I won't have a new release of cp_siege ready for this weekend, and I won't in fact be able to attend either day. So have fun everyone!

I tought I should bring these up as they are features I`d like to see tested:

  • Demoman: You can jump on top of the Office building from both sides, just be careful with snipers if you are up front. You can also get anywhere a soldier can rocket-jump.
  • Soldier: You are able to get to the top of the Hangar (a very good position to defend or ambush a flag carrier. You can also jump right to the balcony of the offices. You can also jump up trough the flag`s room opening in the ceiling to avoid taking the flag trough the beaten path. You can also rocket-jump over trough the opening in the sewer room right in front of the hangar.
  • Engineer: The raised area by the hangar side is your own stronghold, use it! The office building is a good place for a teleporter exit, as is the inner side of the tower or behind the hangar.
  • Scout: You can get quickly trough the yard by jumping atop the waterfall rocks trough the raised props (but you will lose cover from snipers). It is also a good way to avoid being ambushed by enemies coming out of the cave. You can double-jump from the inside balcony of the Office to the small platform around the tower and from there get to the top of the Hangar (you have to duck to be able to get across, it`s tricky, but key to a fast capture). Also, in the cavern, you can sometimes survive bumping on the slactites with a well timed double-jump across.
  • Medic, Pyro, Spy and Heavy: Do your magic and mess up with the other classes plans, they are all spelled out above :p
