Hey guys, im here again to bring you another animated model :O.

This time its pretty simple but effective. Its basically a model of a piece of clothing or cloth (i'm not really sure what it is) that blows in the wind.

Simply install this bad boy, line its prop_dynamic up with a move_ropes slack line and set its animation depending on which way you want it to play and which way the model is facing and BAM. Instant cloth on a line in the wind.

It comes with 8 different skins, 4 for each team. All of them are mega basic and are basically a direct sample and fill of the color pallet you get from the tf2 contribute site. It also comes with 2 animations, a blowing animation for each side.

Wait? Whats that? You don't like the textures? Neither do I! I added slight cloth like lines over top of the base colors but other than that it took me 5 seconds to make it. Do you wanna make your OWN texture for this model, well todays your lucky day, i have included the Photoshop file used. I have also included the UV snapshot and the AO bake so even if you don't have Photoshop you can make a new texture.

Don't like having the model in /models/cloth/? I have also included the smds and QC for this model, so you can set your own model and material directory.

Without further ado, here is a video of this bad boy in action.

Enjoy!

(PS. here is a couple of mirrors if the TF2 maps one doesn't work. http://www.multiupload.com/OA0KT29WH0)

You should try to add a few different animations so that they don't move in unison like that.

Edit: I mean completely the same.. They would eventually change patterns from each other, right?

Actually they both have the same amount of frames, so no they would never go out of unison.

What i did was add a logic_auto and set all of there animations at different times, this way the wind looks like its still blowing from the same way but they are not all in perfect unison.

Cool!Trey, is it just me or are your models some of the best models?

I love these and all, but wouldn't it have made more sense to make jiggle bones and use Env_wind to simulate the pressure on the cloth?

Wait, what? Can model jigglebones be influenced by env_wind? If so I don't mind making such a version of this model.

Nice as these are, I'd like to see something 'lighter'
Rather than something like a duvee or carpet, do a bit of laundry, and see if you can get the 'waves' effect that makes the wind a bit more noticable. Like the effect of a waving flag.

I to would love to make some more types of cloths. Defiantly something lighter like a shirt or a pair of underwear!

I tried fruitlessly to get Mayas amazing nCloth simulations into a bone based animation through different proxy methods and such. But seeing things as detailed as the waves effect on clothing in light wind i think would probably take up too many polygons then its worth. I was really going for something low poly and very light to render seeing as its such a small feature. If i recall each cloth is around 600 polys with a basic 128 texture.

Then again, doing a double sided mesh i might be able to bump up the poly to get that kinda wave effect but like i said i'm not sure its really worth it.

In-fact, a simple shirt and/or pants/underwear something like that i don't think is too much of a problem. Hahah maybe a bra to further confuse people of the pyros sex?

If i'm in the shirts and undies modeling mood later on i might do such a thing!

According to VDC, trigger_wind has a flag called "Effect Everything" but I'm not sure if it means EVERYTHING (because in HL2 it can push prop_physics, but none of them have jigglebones).

It'd needs testing :p

While you're at it, make some flags.

Will do sir! :p

Yeah, i think your right. I haven't seen any case of someone being able to effect a models jigglebone with map based triggers. Its worth to look into, but i highly doubt there is a way to do it.

Pretty sweet. Not sure offhand where I would use something like it, but it looks very fluid and realistic. Only thing I would recommend would be toning down the baked-in self-shadowing. Cloth is semi-translucent, and probably wouldn't cast that harsh of a shadow on itself like that.
