Here's a animation I managed to squeeze out. I created everything you see in After effects. (Except for the background screenshot which I took in SFM.) I created the heavy using simple shapes and then parenting them to controls, quite literally creating a "2D Rig."
I've included a download if you want to play around with it yourself. It contains eye controls, eye brows and the head/torso.
