After every point I make I you agree you should continue reading. If f after a point you disagree with it you should make a post concerning that point.

  • The point of a competition is to evaluate one's skill against others.
  • Anything that would reduce the representation of one’s skill would be something that diminishes the effectiveness of the competition.
  • A random factor that can sway the competition in great favor to the less skilled contestant reduces the representation of skill in the competition, which in turn defeats the point of a competition.
  • Crits are a random factor.
  • Crits can greatly sway the competition due to the fact that they can kill multiple people in one shot as opposed to three or more shots.
  • Crits lessen the representation of skill and reduce the effectiveness of the competition, therefore breaking the competition.
  • This means that crits are broken.

One of the chief reasons that Valve included crits is that they can sway the fight in favor of one contestant so much that a new player can defeat a skilled opponent, which in turn makes the new player enjoy the game and continue to play it.

And that is why crits are disabled in competition.

So WHY are you complaining? Valve gives the option to disable.

Or are you talking about weapons that give crits? Because those are just like headshots, just with different terms.

(FYI, I like crits. They're like tiny orgasms of hatrid and awesomeness)

I'm talking about why crits are turned off in higher level play. Just trying to spread the enlightenment. Not complaining at all.

Your vision of enlightenment.

You know, the Nazis tried to spread their version of enlightenment as well. We all know what happened there.

So Competitive Players are better than Casual Players or any other kind of Players? Fascism at it's finest.

Next thing you know, he's going to want to put all the engis in concentration camps!

QUICK! WE MUST NOT LET HISTORY REPEAT! We must form an allied aggression pack and prevent his fascist campaign from taking over our allies!

They are on a different level, and I can argue a higher due to the fact hat comp players invest more time, are more highly skilled then pub players, that they try to improve their skill, and that players start as pub players and eventually move on to comp play becuase they are bored of pub play. And people move up to a better level.

The Nazis did not spread enlightenment, they killed the unenlightened and I would put the engi in japan since they have all the good robots.

Gentlemen, We have a crazy ruler on our hands. I suggest you safeguard your engis from this crazy freak. He might invade to take them!

Comp Players aren't better than anyone else, they don't invest more goddamn time. They just say they're better. In fact, they insist they are better. Dime-a-dozen backstabbin' scumbags. Like you.

I would argue lower level then casual players. My logic? In the grand scheme of life casual players are more likely to do things that truly matter in this world. I view playing a game competitively the same as the kid who has all the star wars action figures. He also dedicates more time to what he does than most people, doesn't mean he's on a "higher level" he just thinks he is, and everyone around him snickers.

This offends me.

I'm a comp player and I'm like omfg at Mathematics and Science and am looking at some of the top colleges in the US to attend.

I agree with everything except for the last point. Crits aren't exactly competition-friendly (and by extension, neither is TF2). When you play competitive TF2, go play on a non-crit server. The end. Why even post about it?

As far as the last point goes, crits do exactly what they were designed to do. They are not broken. Taking something clearly not meant for competitive play (TF2) and trying to warp it to suit your desires and then calling it broken does not make sense (logically).

I think most of the people on this forum are sick of you whining about competitive play. Surely there is a place you can go do this that was created for it. It seems you're far more interested in it than mapping.

Don't mean to offend, was more of a rebuttal to comp players thinking their hot shit than it was what I truly believe. More of a counter-point actually.

My point is the comp players need to realize that it is a game, and being better at it than someone else is swell and all, but doesn't mean anything, and most people don't care. But regardless, they will continue to stroke their Epeens together, while we ignore them.

I agree with the original points.

HOWEVER, I think there should be an additional point, inserted before all the others, that reads:
  • Some TF2 players are in it for competition. Others are in it for fun. The following points apply only to players that are in TF2 for competition.

As a player who's into TF2 for fun, and who doesn't play a gazillion hours (and thus isn't highly skilled) I like the occasional burst of crits. One of the few times I get to see what the game is like for the better players. :)

i dont think they are broken. the more kills you get in the shortest amount of time increases your chance to crit. therefore, more skilled players will get more crits. it balances out. eve if they were 100% random at 5% to crit, 5% chance of randomeness in a game seems fine for any kind of play wheter it be pub or comp.
