What's causing this lighting problem? Also, zero area child patches.

Maybe they're directly related? I don't know.

The walls in the picture above are textured with some wood, but they appear black at most angles. At the right angles, though, they light up again.

I also have several zero area child patches, but because I can't figure out HOW they're caused, I have no idea how to find the problems. Can anyone explain please? thanks

Now I've got a problem with the roof... Half of the metal sheets I used are darker then the other, and it seems to be because they're flipped upside down compared to the others. Is there some kind of trick I can use for them to light properly, and still allow me to have them turned?

Ok I flipped them over and managed to make it look ok, but now they're lit up on the inside, too, where no light should be hitting them. (from a realistic standpoint, I mean)

Is there a way to keep the back side of them from lighting up, so it doesn't look weird on the inside? If not, I can just put a ceiling in it or something to hide it.

In my map there's a large ship model, when I compiled it looked black ingame. It was fixed puting a info_lighting

That's an awesome guide, but it's not quite what I mean. You see the middle row of panels? I got them all to be lit up like that row, but I would like the other side (inside of house) of them to be darker, instead of lit up like that on both sides.

If it's not possible I'll just work around it.
