basically what makes the water less reflective the closer it is to you and more reflective the farther away? is it the shader or something? (yes i have no idea what i'm talking about)
Yep, its the way the shader works. If it doesn't do that, it looks like you're wading through a pool of mercury. (I remember some early DX9 games that were like that...)
What's the deal with so many custom maps having like an ocean or big water area, and leaving the scale really low. It looks terrible being so repetitive. Put the scale up to 1 and add rocks in the ocean to make it look half-decent.

#1 it was something i made in 3 seconds to show what i was taking about so i didn't care about the texture scale. i already know to up the scale because i have another post regarding the repetitiveness of the water and how to correct it.
#2 go out to the edge of the ocean and tell me how many rocks you see sticking up. hell go to a lake and tell me how many you see.
