Trainyard

    Well this is my very first TF2 Map; KoTH_Coalyard
    Here it is, i've only really done the Red spawn, and haven't even done the CP yet, but there you go.
    Comment and all that, I'll put a download link up once i get more of it done, there's not really much to play at the momentt :blushing:

    So the theme is its meant to be a trainyard with resources in that RED and BLU are trying to get hold of and control ;)
    I've done alot of research on TF2 maps, and the themes you should have, and how to build accordingly, but its still hard.
    Still, I guess it is my first map :bored:
    Anyway, I'd better get to work :)

    Looks cool, maybe a bit dark but the name "Train yard" is very unoriginal and has been used so many times.

    thankss, yea im thinking of ways to light it up, whilst still keep it night, im currently putting some sorta floodlights in, thoughtt they might have those in a trainyard?
    and yes i know, im not gonna keep it, its just i hadnt even thought of a name until i posted this, and it was the first to come to mind :p
    if anyone has any suggestions that would be nice :)

    Looking good for a first map. Perhaps somewhat flat, though. Put some balconies, cliffs and multi-level buildings in to spice the gameplay up. You could also try working with ground elevation, though that might be somewhat complicated for a first map.

    Also, maps should always be well lit, even if they take place at night. Pipeline is a good example.

    Is the map mirrored (Viaduct, Sawmill) or flipped (Badlands, Granary)?

    Thanks :) yea I'm gonna do the displacement thing with the floor, should make it more interesting

    Yea I'm gonna try to light it, finding it a bit hard though :p

    Umm, I think its flipped :) like I copied it and did a 180 :p

    you might want to add a little (very little) purple tint in the light_environment. just so the map feels a little like the skybox. but not too much or you will throw the whole map off.

    It needs a more exciting name. Something like "trainwreck" or "derailment" or "signal" or "locomotion"

    actually on second though, "trainwreck" might not be all that of a good name for a map :)

    Hmm its got a big crane on CP, maybe 'Arena_Craneyard?' ;)

    Unfortunately Mainline is taken in the map cp_mainline, by SWATY I believe (may he stay banned in peace). Anyways I was going to comment on the open space and sightlines that frequent the screenshots in your map. My only suggestion is to add more geometry or prop cover so that the sightlines and open spaces become useful/blocked otherwise the map won't be too much fun to play ;)

    EDIT: as for names?

    Fun Fact: Train yard was actually the original name of Lumberyard in TF2!

    brighten light_environment? set light and ambient to something something something 30000 :p
