Network Editing

Hey Guys,

I was curious if anyone could point me in the right direction as to how to edit maps with multiple people over a network?

Disregard the following if the above is possible.

Is this even possible for Hammer?

Does anyone know if this already has been submitted to any type of request thread on Valve's TF2 Community site?

I ask because I've worked with some editors in the past that have allowed a team to work simultaneously without effecting each others progress.

At the moment there is no proper way to do this. I already send a e-mail to Valve about this and many other ideas for hammer and they replied!

Hammer is pretty unstable as-is, so something like this would just make it extremely unstable to use....


That being said, it is a good idea, Kiddnils, I am wondering what they responded with also.

Well, first I send them a few ideas after I saw their video about Learning with Portals. Then I got a personal reply I lost sadly. I think GMX deleted the mail because it was in the spam folder.

After 1 month they replied me with this e-mail:

Together, between your classroom experience and our gaming platform, we look forward to developing cool new tools that'll make learning even more fun.

To that end, we’re currently building a secure site where we can brainstorm together. We’re just getting started, so please be patient – and don't lose that list of ideas. We’ll be in touch soon.

We’re also busy building a closed ecosystem for you and your teachers on Steam, our games distribution platform. Soon you will be able to utilize an academic version of Steam, with a focus on learning, building, and exploring ideas together. We can’t wait to see what happens.

There's no google docs style live group editing that I know of, the closest I could think is using dropbox, and having everyone work on separate parts of the map, maybe some way to view the other screens over a skype video call?

I'm going to be honest, that sounds like a canned response...

Well the first reply was a personal e-mail from Leslie Redd. I know the second is canned everybody who sends them a e-mail now get this reply. But I really thinking about making a thread for ideas and improvements for hammer.
