So, I guess I'm making another request, becuase my modelling skills are terrible.

Anyway, I'm now requesting a simple section of railing (preferrably 64 units long, 32 units tall), with the following design placed in the middle of the railing section, with the same vertical bars going along the length of the railing.

I'd obviously like some sort of posts seperating railing sections, and a standalone post so I can place it at the end of sections of railing, and on corners, similar to the swamp rail sections, and the standalone post accompanying that:

Anway, here's the reference I found, that I was trying to replicate:

Thanks in advance. I'll obviously give credit where due, and might even consider tossing a small paypal donation to whoever hooks me up with some l33t railing goodness.

Actually, that would be useful too, I'm sure. It could be pretty nice looking in some interior areas, I'm sure. I'm also going to need to work on some sort of rice-paper looking materials for interior areas, as well. I'll work more on that once my map is more under way. I do appreciate it though. Thanks! :D

Hi, I'm pretty new to modeling but I'd be happy to give this a go for you. I'll start on it now and see how far I can get tonight.

EDIT: So I gave it ago and this is what I have so far, I think I'm going to go in and chamfer (smooth) alot of the edges tomorrow. I also have and end built I just wanted to make them all separate models like you asked for. I'll get that uploaded tomorrow.

I made it to the size that you wanted 64 units long and 32 high, seems a little small to me but then I don't know how you're using it in a map.

Anyways tell me what you think and what you'd like changed, or if its just crap just tell me and I'll go cry in the corner xD.

That looks pretty awesome, actually. I guess I'm just using it for sections of outdoor railing for ledges, etc. I should probably use larger sections, I was just guessing, as for scale. But that looks pretty nice, actually.

I'd be happy to do this too. As for that screen that EArk is working on, I have one of those done too. Although, he'd probably do it better.

Thanks, is the height the right size? Thats the main thing I need to know as scaling thats going to be a bit more of a pain. Horizontally you can tile it as long as you want and then place the Posts when you want to finish.

I'm going to work on this more once I get some spare time later. Try and make the texture a bit nicer and chamfer down some of the edges to make it less Jaggedy.

Yeah, I always thought that 32 units was a good height for a railing, and...I dunno. If I'm wrong, someone can always speak up. But as far as the height... I dunno. It should be fine. Anyway. I do greatly appreciate the work. It's looking good so far. =D

Mkay, heres an updated version. I changed the texture around a bit and made the bars a bit wider to make it nicer. I also messed with the texture a little bit and made the posts. The posts can line up in hammer "sometimes" I found stretching it a unit made it work so I made need to go back and change that on the base model.

First screenie: Here's a shot of me looking down on it.

See to me it looks a tad small.

Second Screenie: Crouches down on its level.

Tell me what you think and then what you want changed.

Thanks!

Charlie: That actually looks pretty damn nice as-is. I appreciate the work you've put into it. I love the style of the posts, too. I didn't really know what to suggest, but that looks awesome. :D

If thats the right size that you want, I can send the files over to you.

Do you have an email address I can send it to?
You can send it to me in PM if you don't want it out in the open.

3DS Max for the modeling and then Photoshop for the texturing.

I've been using Photoshop for a few years now but have never really done any painting/texturing with it so this is a nice change. Modeling I've never really done before, I've always been interested but have only really been getting down to learning it for about a month now. I try to do something 3D related each day just to keep it fresh.

I hope it works for you in game and everything!

Neat. I was thinking about picking up 3DS, instead of using Maya like I was going to attempt to do.

Anyway. I'll definitely keep you in mind for future modelling needs, this railing is perfect for what I needed it for. Thanks again.
