Hi everyone, I'm brand new to this (literally just joined and now I'm starting on Crash's tutorial series).

I'm at the point where I'm about to download A Boojum Snark's Resource Pack but on the download page I see it says: "IMPORTANT: The "Material Browser" improvements necessitate overriding some of the default materials. This may cause problems when playing on pure servers!".

Does this mean that downloading the resource pack could prevent me from playing casual mode? That's something I would really like to know before I go any further with this.

Thanks!

when you download the resource pack you download an exe and when running it it will ask you if you want to use those improvements

Oh okay thanks for correcting me then! In that case, what exactly does that warning refer to?

"IMPORTANT: The "Material Browser" improvements necessitate overriding some of the default materials. This may cause problems when playing on pure servers!"

I assumed that official valve servers were considered "pure", hence my initial confusion.

Valve servers are set up to be pure, but they're set in such a way that they override any mods (such as ABS's pack) with the default materials. I think the setting is 'sv_pure 2'? Servers set to 'sv_pure 1' might give you some issues, since they block mods without forcing the default assets (AFAIK), so the warning is likely there for that.

I'd also recommend getting Hammer++ as well, if you haven't downloaded it already. It came out recently enough that even Crash's tutorial doesn't mention it, but us long-time mappers see it as an absolute revolution. Here's a list of it's additions and quality-of-life improvements.
