I know the vmf are on fps banana but they can not be recompiled.
In css there also not released i am asking myself why they don't do that?
If nobody know i am going to mail valve for this.
Like we could modifie the gametypes the same way there planning to do with well.

no time for it atm
And editing valve maps would make a great contribution to the tf scene!

Sniper is right, it certainly wouldn't be any great, and will only hurt the mapping community *like surf maps*

be creative, make your own work, there is no fun or pride in reworking someone elses.

Surf maps
Orange maps
HL2/CSS textured maps
Recompiled official maps
...

All these things will kill TF2

valve is doing the same with there well map why should i not change the gameplay of dustbowl :S

Heh well while I don't always agree with what Snipergen thinks shouldnt be, i will agree with him on this point. If you were to simply take a decompiled map, change a few entities and release it that is essentially plagarism.

Luckily, as you are aware, decompiled maps are virtually uncompilable, so that this plagarism cannot happen.

And while you make a valid point about valve simply remaking earlier TFC maps, i would note that they did NOT simply copy the original 2fort layout in hammer and add pretty entities/models. The map has been recreated from scratch involving untold hours of labor.

If you were to simply take those untold hours of labor, spend an hour changing entities, and release it as something new, thats pretty much a slap in the face of the people who worked so hard to make the thing, regardless of whether you give them credit.

So while I whole heartedly applaud any attempts on your part to implement new gameplay options into TF2, I would prefer you do it as part of your own creations.

I think valve already changend a lot of maps in there gameplay types, but they only release the best of them because they don't want to look bad if the map goes bad.
So they released the map with the best gameplay style.( and now ctf well because that was good enough)
But if we change it valve can not be blamed for making a bad gameplay with a good map.
And how is it plagarism you take a map that they made for us and change it for there game so there game has more maps.
If you use the map for a game that is not produced by valve then it would be illegal.
I think it is a win win situation. I btw started improving my map along site ;)
I am btw agains making copy of custom maps because that map belongs to the owner or the owner said that he wont mind it.
Thats why I mailed valve for this question hope i will get an answer :)

It's only plagiarism if you fail to credit Valve for the original work.

But it's not about that. It's about disrespecting the development efforts of Valve (by slapping together a map with far less work) and disrespecting other mappers' efforts (by taking the easy path to create "your" map). It's simply not right.

It wont by my map it will be a simple hack of a valve map....

Thats what we've been telling you. :001_rolleyes:
And that's what is wrong...

And no valve did not make a cp and ctf version of all their maps to look what's the most fun. They planned everything, looked what maps they need and than made it from scratch with 1 goal. That's why their maps are so good. (dustbowl, gravelpit, 2fort and hydro)

I dunno, iv seen a few fan made (from scratch but using the same or similar layout) as valve maps like cp_2fort and its so much more fun that ctf_2fort but i dont think it would work with anything other than turning a ctf into a cp (since ctf blows in tf2)
