I am asking for a nice, rough, tf2-oriented granite texture for my new map, which takes place at a quarry. Something like this

There are pictures of just the granite, but they're all polished and clean)

Excellent. I'll have a crack at it tomorrow.
I take it you want a similar colour to that reference photograph, as well as a rough, freshly mined look.
Is this going to be lining the quarry walls, on the floor..?

This what you had in mind? It tiles very nicely, I'm just tidying up the normal and specular maps then I'll package it up for you.

Oh god. It is beautiful :O. And it is on walls. Maybe a bit darker too.

How's this looking? I think I might ditch the specularity as it doesn't really fit.

It looks a tad too realistic for tf2.

The first preview looked a lot better. Actually one of the TF2-iest textures I've seen here.

I think it looks ok. But yeah, just a lightmap would be fine. It would only be reflective if it was wet.

Removed the specular lines from the VMT, also fixed the lighting... For some reason in the previous show the light_enviroment's brightness was set to 50.
It's still looking a little gritty, going to try softening the normal map a bit, unless you think it'll work.

    Awesome compliment, thankyou :)

    The grittier the better.

Why is it so much darker than your first picture? And... big? I was picturing something on a much smaller scale.

Anyway, when you're done with this, could you maybe post the original, tileable image? I'd love to use this but I think FiLiPiNo KiD and I have very different ideas of how we'd like to use it.

Fine! I'll make sure I include both versions, both normal maps and in two different sizes. Maybe even different colours when the rest are ready. Anything else?

How's this? Three colour variations in two detail levels. more detailed texture isn't just scaled down, they're revamped complete with matching normal maps.
I'll leave the specular maps lines in the VMTs, but commented out just in case you change your mind.
