If you are looking for good custom maps, I have a ton of maps that have been rated on my server. The results page is here: http://gaming.calculatedchaos.com/ratings/

The green maps are maps that are on my regular rotation because they have good ratings. I would install sourcemod on your server because it allows you to do a lot of things (roll the dice, etc.) and lets you install any number of custom plugins.

Incoming suggestion:

Host the best, finished/almost finished custom maps. There are tons of custom map servers out there, but most of them have terrible choice in maps or are testing servers. It's great to get some maps tested, but people could use some "best of" servers as well.

Right, that's what we do on our server. The bad maps or alpha maps don't get on the regular rotation of our server. People that specifically ask me to test non-public beta maps get ratings only when they are on the server as part of a play test.

Only proven custom maps make it and those that are beta are periodically updated to new versions as they come out.

It's a lot of work to keep the best custom maps on the server, keep the maps up to date and find new exciting maps to play, but we do an alright job of it. That ratings page should be a good starting place for anyone looking to start a new custom maps server.

If you have trouble filling the server you might want to stay away from Customs with large file sizes.

re suggestion for rotation:
Offer 12 slots for mappers that hang here, with each mapper getting no more than one submission (i.e. hoodoo or halfacre, not both). Once a month/week have a gameday-type event where people play and rate the marps. The 12 with the highest rating get in the rotation for a month/week.

Explain this whole process via the advertisement plugin, and name your server something like "the best of tf2maps.net"

Got it all updated, installed Meta Mod and Source Mod. Rank is working, and I threw TF2_Gore in there for good measure (just makes ya explode every time)... I mean, it *is* the FRaGiMuS MaXiMuS server.

Anyone on TF2Maps that would like a reserved slot, should IM me their STEAM_ID and name.

If you want mod access (kick, ban, changemaps, effects, votes), and the other players on this forum can vouch for you, then let me know in that same IM.

The map rotation is currently:

cp_dustbowl
ctf_2fort
pl_goldrush
ctf_mach4

I'd really love to make Saturday nights, or Sunday nights, "rats" map nights... like Low-Gravity Toy Fort/Royal, as well as having a weekly test night for new maps.

It would also be nice to know a group of players who all have CP_Boulder. It's such an awesome 3-part map and no one ever runs it.

I'm also considering dropping it down to 16 slots just to make it more intimate. If I see we get the traffic, then I have no problem with upgrading it.
