I just started using Hammer recently(like, yesterday), so please excuse me if I'm a little n00bish.

    1) I'm trying to make a CP map, but I can't get Control Points to work. Does anybody have a tutorial for that? I tried using a tutorial for the resupply lockers and modifying it a little, I made a CP, and made it a prop_dynamic, and added a brush with the Trigger texture around it, and tied a trigger_capture_area thing to it, and set it to the right CP, ect., and it still doesn't work.

    2) Also, how can I get those spinning holographic arrows over the CPs to work?

    3) One more thing, It wouldn't hurt for me to have some general tips on mapmaking, too.

    Thanks in advance.

    1) Here's a tutorial for you: http://www.fpsbanana.com/tuts/4620. Also when in doubt, try looking up the answer in the valve wiki: http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Category:Level_Design

    2) The tutorial discusses that.

    3) As to general tips I would suggest going to a few sites that give you step by step instructions on how to make basic maps.

My favorite: http://www.halfwit-2.com/?page=tutorials&category=1 (tons and tons of tuts)
Or go to: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=561433 which has a list of sites like that.

    developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/TF2/Creating_a_Capture_Point

You don't need to create a prop_dynamic for the holographic arrow, the team_control_point entity creates that.

In your \sourcesdk_content\tf\mapsrc\ directory there should be a file named cp_game_entities.vmf. Open that in Hammer to see some example Control Points along with some other things like spawn areas and doors.

Just wanted to reply to say, holy cow Doc! I had never come across that site before, but they have a LOT of stuff on there. Definitely going to take the time to read through some of those now. Thanks. :thumbup1:

Yeah that halfwit site is mostly HL2 stuff, how to recreate scenes from the single player game, and while that kinda stuff is not directly applicable to TF2 mapping, it does really help giving you the full scope of what entities are capable of.
