Hello,

I am not a specialist and I have not mapped for a few years. It's a real pleasure to get back into it, especially since I just discovered a great tool: Hammer++. It's so great!

They just added the possibility to preview your lights live and it's pur magic. It's perfect for me who's just about to do a ctf all indoors.

Most of you probably know about it and you may have already talked about it (my bad English makes me not frequent the forum) but I can't hide my joy.

For those who like me want to discover this little marvel, it happens here :

What the shit, this dude is an actual wizard. We need to all bug Valve to replace vanilla Hammer with this in all of their games, pronto. Real-time lighting previews! What's next, a working carve?

The rendering is finally quite far from what we can see once the map is compiled. It's a pity, I'm disappointed. There are probably some settings I don't understand but I think I'll give up using this "lightning preview" option. It's more misleading than anything else.

PS: it's not so bad, but in Hammer++ it's more dark than in the game.

Quality does vary, but it seems mostly all right to me, especially for previewing sun angles.

The main disparity comes when a lot of extra bounces are required to light up an area, which is going to be different between fast and full VRAD settings anyway. Oh, and on that note, I can't help but notice that all the advanced compile options are missing in Hammer++. I'm not enough of an expert to recreate them from memory, so I might be stuck going back to vanilla Hammer for full compiles.

Wait you can do that in it? I don't have to compile and boot my game up anymore to test lighting?? What a miracle!!
