Displacement aren't as much polygon based as they are height map based. They are quite the strange things.

Displacement aren't as much polygon based as they are height map based. They are quite the strange things.
The important thing to remember about displacements is that they have to be four-sided so that Hammer can divide them into triangles. Hence, polgyon-based.

By the same logic brushes are polygon based too, since they have sides too.
