I'm trying to compile a very basic map (only a few brushes and a spawnpoint). However, whenever I try to compile it I get the same error (ie. material "tools/toolsskybox" not found).
I followed a reddit post to install hammer editor on Linux
I've tried changing the materialPath to tf/materials on the Linux version of tf2, however nothing I try seems to work
The odd thing is, the materials preview just fine in the texture picker and 3d view. I have no clue why it doesn't work in compile
Compile log: https://pastebin.com/2KGvqs3S

FIX: Changed the build programs tab to be the .exe's put into the Team Fortress 2/bin folder instead of the depot/bin folder

if you mean tf2, i can't load the map in the first place because hammer doesn't compile it into a bsp
if you mean hammer, all the textures and models appear normally

The materials reported as missing by the compile log don't live in TF2's materials dir. They live in the HL2 base content in Team Fortress 2/hl2/materials. I am unfamiliar with the 'materialsPath' argument and where it is specified, but it seems it may be interfering with the compile. Normally, the compile tools will use gameinfo.txt for asset sources.
