Does anyone collaborate on maps? is that a thing people do? my map is pretty cool but the lighting is bad and i suck at some stuff.

Do people collaborate? Yeah. Typically you need to ask people to collaborate and then figure it out from there.

People only really collab with people they know. Developing a rapport is probably your first step to 'getting in' around here.
