The Supreme Meme Lord™ submitted a new resource:

dm_snarkpit - Snarks my beloved, now in Source

An attempt to port the Half Life Deathmatch map of the same name, with some adjustments to make it fit Open Fortress.

Currently very early in development as well as my first non-map edit, so expect it to be a bit rough, sorry.

Will work on slightly better scaling, just throwing this out to see/find out the trouble areas.

*Updated the scaling across the whole map:
I mean it, the whole map has been completely rebuilt to better fit Open Fortress, rather than being a port with some minor adjustments.​
*Updated the map layout (Outside of scaling):
Added more height variation in the titular Snark Pit (bottom level).​
Added another slipgate in the map, taking you from the Snark Pit to a hallway on the main floor.​

Feedback Implementation

Added 2 new ways to get out of the bottom dirt.
  • One is a platform and the other is a jump pad.
Added more health spots on the bottom dirt.
  • Let me know if there should be more down below.
Updated the staircase down to the Lightning Gun room to be a simple U turn.

Updated the hallway leading towards the fan room to be a spiral staircase.
  • The fan room's entrance has been adjusted to account for this.
Added the AK.

Minor things

Added more health to the dirt level.

Replaced the brush base of the elevator with a model.

Made the map brighter in various areas.
  • For those interested, the places were right next to the jumppad and adding a window in the elevator shaft.
Added an extra hallway up from the dirt.
  • This hallway is one I'm iffy on, let me know if it needs changing.
Added very basic detailing.
  • This includes adding the Snark Dispenser (minus the Snarks), and making...

The little things.

Extended the newly added hallway:
  • This extension of the hallway also adds the Dynamite as a weapon.
Changed the map's lighting:
  • Adjusted the sun's angle.
  • Changed the ambient light color.
  • Changed the skybox.
Continued basic detailing:
  • Mainly just a few texture changes and making the dirt floor a displacement.

Changes in this update:

Complete overhaul of lighting:
  • Inspired by the colored lighting of Gold Source, Snarkpit can get the lighting it deserves.
Closed up a majority of the walkoff next to the ammo room:
  • This was done to lessen the domination that the high ground could give.
  • This area has also been detailed as well.
  • There are also two walkoff hatches you can take to get down.
Redid the crate cover in the ammo room:
  • Now it is a multitude...

Optimization pass.

Optimized the map in various ways.
  • This includes using hint brushes, increasing the luxel scale in a troublesome spot, and adding area portals.
Applied a more efficient form of compression.
  • This just means that the initial download is smaller, now not even crossing10MB.
  • No, I don't know why it was more before. Yes, everything should be packed. If anything, it's overpacked.

Soundscapes, Railguns, and Silos, oh my!

Added a new rocket silo area.
  • There are two hallways connecting the silo to other rooms, those being in the Lightning Gun room, and the bottom Fan room.
  • It has two accessible stories, with the top story containing...

Optimization, Skybox Expansion, and Slight Tweaks.

Expanded the height of the skybox:
  • Mainly done to have your rockets cut off so abruptly.
  • You can't reach the very top of the skybox, but the limit is a flat plane and no longer a slope.
Added extra area portals and hints to the top layer of the map:
  • You should get more fps on average, especially if you're on a lower-end device.
Made various areas of the map brighter:
  • Not too much of a game changer, but mainly done to prevent a few...

Detailing and tweaks, oh my!

A bit of a smaller update, but here it is.

Added more spawnpoints in the downstairs portion of the map.
  • This was done mainly because a lot of people where either hastily leaving the area or not going down there at all, leading to people getting confused on where the top scoring player got the Railgun.
Brightened minor parts of the map.
  • Mainly done to improve visibility, once again.
