Just adding on to what I said earlier, a lot of traps have a dual purpose. A pit can eat spam, as well as creating a corridor without walls. The sawblades in sawmill double as moving cover (another thing, moving cover is a really good, untapped gameplay element. I've only seen it used in traingrid, sawmill and pl maps so please use it if you can). If you're talking about the "death" element of the trap only, use it to limit traffic/slow down players, provide risk/reward and to reward players for exploiting it (though that can go wrong). Environmental hazards make players pay a LOT more attention to the map itself, and can be really annoying if they draw too much attention.
