Compile Problems?

    I've been told that this forum is against redoing Valve maps...well I'm sorry if any of you don't like this, but I'm just here for help. I downloaded a decompiled version of koth_sawmill and began working on an xmas version a few days ago. I'm using VBCT to compile it, I haven't tried compiling with source SDK itself yet. Everything works except for two things. One, all the reflections are purple. I tried building cubemaps if that makes any difference, but it didn't change. And two, some doorways are blocked by a box with an "area portal" texture that's visually and physically there, so I can't walk through them. Here's pics, any help for fixing this would be great you guys :)

    Well, here's a [ame="http://forums.tf2maps.net/showthread.php?p=24384"]Guide to Cubemaps[/ame] Not only do you have to place them, you have to "Build" the reflections in game (The Link covers that) Yes, decompiling Valve maps to make modifications is Bad, and we won't encourage or support you for the most half, But I hope you learn something from it and move on to your own creative mapping.

    I compilted in SDK...areaportals are still showing up as solids. I guess I could delete them, but I'd really rather not have no areaportals. Do you think if I redid them it would work?

    You do know what Area Portals do right? The map was probably decompiled with Vmex, which doesn't understand them and just makes them simple brushes, remaking them would require more than just putting them back in in order to get them functioning properly.

    Imagine taking a vase, smashing it with a hammer (the act of decompiling it) then trying to glue it back together (compiling it again)

    Its not gunna go well. You're going to have to fix a whole load of things before you can get this map in a compilable state because vmex is far from perfect.

    yes i do know what area portals do, and no I do not fully understand how to make them. And this is the only problem with compiling so far, and I've searched and searched and searched. I got the cubemaps working now, so the only problem is the area portals. So nobody can help?
