Backbase - Destroy the Red's nuclear reactor !

Welcome to Back Base !

A community map to create for the purpose of offering the community yet another map.

This is a re-release of the old version under development, and I wanted to offer the final version its own place on the workshop, obviously the latest version of pl_backbase is no longer available on the workshop.

Updates will be coming and will not only adjust the potential bugs it may have and also add new content.

Some feedback from just the first point:

The airstrike gimmick was a bit confusing. We got a message about it, used it once. Hitting the button again would cause the map message of "airstrike incoming, run!" to appear, but no airstrike would happen.

In addition, the cart got stuck on the first point at precisely this spot.

I added an new patch on the Workshop, i removed the AirStrike to avoid any out-of-context things, also fixed the cart path !

feedback about optimisation.

this area literally can not me optimised, you can try placing occluder walls inside MANNCO sign building but thats really all, one important advise for new mappers is use brushes, brushes are very flexible, if you need complex structures or cover you can do it with brushes instead of models, brushes over props, this first area uses too much props as gameplay objects, try walking and jumping around that area a soldier to feel how hard it is for example to get to that medkit and ammo(without rocket jumping)

this area also should be lit at all times, it was hard for red team to walk here since they cant see anything

having sentries that kill everyone on blue when they cap the point is funny but its not a good game design

optimising this is also impossible since all optimisation tech in source relies on brush walls that block line of sight, most things that block line of sight in this area are props, not brushes.

Ranily updated Backbase with a new update entry:

A lot of work to do !

  • Removing almost all textures to see the wall better
  • Removing props
  • Removing some bugged textures
  • Removing the Dynamic Light system
  • Adjusting the cart path
  • Replace some world cube to brush entity
  • Removing the Light HDR

I removed everything that are useless for the Alpha version for now, i'll try to rework it. If someone is interested by working on this map too, you're welcomed !
