After months spent building (and trashing) maps that never lived to see the light of day, I finally feel confident enough to make my first public release, cp_granite!

Granite's going to be a dustbowl style A/D map, featuring Blu fighting to push forward into Red's mountain base. This alpha only contains the basic layout for the first stage, the other two have been drafted but not built yet. Taking a cue from Chrono's testing of Cumulus I'd like to develop this in stages, making sure each round's layout is as tight as possible before moving onto the next.

A1 is intended to be purely focused on layout; the texturing, lighting, and prop placement has not been extended beyond the point necessary for the map to be playable.

At this point, I'm looking for feedback directed towards basic gameplay. Broken sentry positions, unfair soldier/demo spots, unbeatable chokepoints, anything of the sort. It's a first alpha, so go ahead and tear it apart :p

EDIT: The download link for Granite has been removed, in addition to the broken textures it's become more and more obvious that I'm going to have completely revamp the entire map. As such, this project is going into limbo for the time being while I completely restructure it. A new alpha version will be posted once I've got it in a workable state.

Please, pack your custom devs in so people can actually test your map without the eye-hurting purple/black. It's much easier to concentrate on gameplay when you don't have to deal with missing textures.

As far as layout goes, it seems a bit open, especially between points A and B, but it's a bit hard to tell at this point.

This may half-be due to the fact the DL site was down and the copy i got was missing the .bsp part (got a cp_granite_a1.bz2, which unzipped with no extension). Whatever the cause, I saw the missing textures and didn't stick around to test the map.

Sorry guys, rookie mistake on my part. I used Youme's dev textures for a great part of the map, and forgot that I had to include them in order for things to work properly. Live and learn, I guess.....

Either way, after zipping around the map with some RL friends of mine, and running through alone a few times, I've got a general idea of some flaws in the layout, so I'm drawing out plans for a second alpha now. I swear that next time I'll be sure to not slip up again and forget to pack anything in. (How embarrassing is this?)
