Ok, so im trying to make a 2fort mod, and i have the the basics done, but when i get done compiling to test it out, it gets messed up really bad. I was wondering if anybody could download the map and tell me what is wrong with it? because its hard to explain.

There's a leak that's causing your areaportals to malfunction.

Also you have to pack the lava texture into your map.

Also the lava kills you too quickly.

Also the wooden supports over the lava look out of place.

Also you effectively removed the only sideroute into the enemy base.

grrrr, yeah, the sideroute to the enemy's base is a slight problem.

If you are talking about the lava instead of the water, i made a path through the sewers, so you can still use them. Although they are only blocks right now, they will be better later on, my biggest problem right now is the leaks.

Also, realistically, if you jump into real lava, how long do you expect to live?

so, how do i fix the leaks?

The Asylum

1. Wooden supports? In lava? Really?

2. The stepping stones leading from the middle of the lava pool and into the sewer pipes. The hanging Intelligence sign is in the way

3. There's a leak somewhere in your map. Run a pointfile to see where it is

4. You need Pakrat to include custom textures/models/etc in your map, so other people don't get the purple/black checkers

5. Everything's so dark in the basement. Some spots are pitch-black

6. Why is the Intel pushed all the way into the conference-room-thingee in the intel room? Are you trying to make 2Fort WORSE?

7. Really, another 2fort remake? You can do better than that, can't you?

Well, no need to get mean. I am a relatively new map maker, and i saw this as a challenge, so i tried to see what i could do.

I will try fixing those things you said.

But i have to wonder, what is wrong with the intel being pushed back? i mean, its farther to run, but big whoop, i added an extra tunnel. and could you please specify where in the basement is pitch black?

Oh. and the bridge is just one entity, so it'll be hard for me to edit it so its no longer wooden, or something.

He means that if a Scout meets a Heavy and a Soldier rushing into the intel room, the Scout is basically stuffed. Multiple routes in and out of intel rooms are required for all CTF maps, and 2fort doesn't do well on this count. Also, I hope you read the sticky.

Ultimately, there are 324 versions of 2fort out there in the wild. (Source) We really don't need another one.

Ahhhh, well, i've only seen like, 4 haha. But yeah, i get what you are saying. But i DID make an alternate route, its a tunnel that goes from the big room to the straight staircase, and pops out underneath.

I did try to solve the multiple routes thing. and that is how i got the leaks, btw.

I fixed the leaks i think.

I also read that sticky a while back, multiple times actually. and since i AM changing a lot of the map, and most likely only my friends and I are gonna be playing it, it really doesn't matter much.

The only reason i posted it on this site was because i didn't have the knowlege to fix the problem i had (leaks.) which i now fixed, so thanks :)

Oh, and i thought about what you guys said, so i moved the intel back, but im keeping the room open, so now there is one more way into the intel.

You cannot fit through the hole underneath the stairs for the tunnel on BLU's side.

The single, no movement paths next to the bridges are a terrible idea as players will be easily sniped because they cannot move in any direction.

The blocks over the lava are beyond annoying as, just like the paths next to the bridge, are easily sniper camped and the jumping takes you 10 - 30 seconds.

Due to the lava, players are forced to take the bridge entrance aswell, which only further increases the sentry effectiveness, which means the game will stalemate even more than 2fort normally does.

In the room where the intel is, the models aren't solid - meaning engineers can build sentries in them, which you will not be able to see. Same with other areas you opened in the old intel room..

Additionally you are blind when going in the room - an engineer can easily build a sentry underneath the stairs that any class will be blind to, aside from a spy. Additionally, the tunnel can be easily camped with a well placed sentry.

Do you mind explaining why there is lava by the way? I do not see a volcano.

Load up a pointfile to be sure!

Pointfiles are regenerated after each compile. If he loads a pointfile, seals that leak, and then loads it again, the pointfile will not change and still register the exact same line.

...but if he fixes his leak, compiles without running the game, he can find out where the other ones are.

If you try to load a pointfile after you seal the leaks properly, you'll get a different message, and it will ask you to browse for one (at which point you know you don't have a leak)

Ok, thanks everyone, no more help needed. I have plenty.
In answer to the questions about the lava. I liked lava, and one of my friends (who is mainly going to be playing the map) asked for me to try it out, and before anybody comments on the rest of the map, i have already done a whole boatload of stuff to it, so most of the comments you had were already null and void.

For instance, the computers were already fixed in the back room, i made better paths in the sewers, ones you didn't have to jump on. The walkways were made bigger over the lava, the intel was moved back to where it was, but i left the big room like it is so there is now one more entrance, i added lights in lots of places, but there is still a leak somewhere, so the lighting is still messed up.

In other words. im playing the map now with my clan, and they seem to like it.
