I feel such an idiot for writing this here, but I can't help it. :blushing:
So I have a problem. When I try to Tie to Entity (Ctrl+T) on entities it says: "there are no eligible selected objects" and it wont work. Am I missing some thing here. I have watched some tutorial videos and I can't see them doing anything different, from what I am doing. Can anyone tell me whats going on?

What do you have selected? Do you have an entity selected, both a brush and an entity, or just a brush?

Does it work if you don't use the shortcut? Can you do it a different way, but not the way you're doing it? (if you can, there's a workaround which you can use to get on with your mapping while you solve the problem)

What type of entity are you tying the brush to? Is it some really obscure entity?

Is the brush invalid, or vertex edited so it's really really big, or is really unusual in some way? (This is probably useless and irrelevant, but it you never know so I'm asking anyways)

Now, I wish someone could hurry up and solve your problem before you answer and show everyone how n00b my mapping/hammer knowledge is (not just that though, I haven't mapped in ages, and this computer is my grandmas, doesn't have steam installed, and has a 300MB download limit which I've probably already blown).

Ctrl+T only works on brush based entities, if you have a point entity, it does not work.
Also, you said when you are selecting entities. Which implies that they are already tied to something and it is that which makes me believe you are talking aboout point entities.

 Could someone please tell me what is the difference between point entities and other entities? In my scenario I am just trying to do a prop_static entity a door. And I only have one entity selected which is not tied to other entities.

a brush entity acts over a wide area, like an area that kills you, but a point entity is in one place, like a light or a particle effect.

Or a prop. Which appears to be the problem here. To make a door you need to make a brush and tie it to the func_door entity using CTRL+T. The prop itself can't be tied into a brush entity since it is a point entity. Rather you want to make the prop a prop_dynamic and parent it to the func_door.

a point entity is an entity created by the entity tool. (looks like a torso in the buttons to the left) these cannot be made into brush entities (this is what you are trying to do with ctrl+t) so your prop needs to be a prop_dynamic so that is can be parented to an invisible brush entity (func_door) to make it move. This (http://forums.tf2maps.net/showthread.php?t=198&highlight=door) has a good section on doors, but no pictures. This (http://forums.tf2maps.net/showthread.php?t=97) can also be a good place to look. Hope that helps

hmm I did everything what that guy said in the tutorial you linked, but the door model doesn't move. When I walk into the trigger brush it plays the door opening/closing sounds but the door doesn't open :/ Any ideas what am I doing wrong?

Have you parented the prop_dynamic to the func_door?
