What is good in an arena map?

What do you like in arena maps?

Since I've been working on an arena map, embankment, I wanted to get a general opinion on what makes a good arena map.

Do you like a lot of paths like lumberyard? Do you like straight symmetry with a relatively square building layout like lumber yard, or a circular one like OffBlast? What about Sawmill?Do you like to run straight into the combat or pick people off?
How do you feel about big battles in arena?

All of those, just in different places. It's just how arena flows: there we be quite a few paths so that there are small skirmishes everywhere as the cannon fodder from each team kill each other; however, there usually is a narrow path to a concentrated battle around the cap point as soon as that become available. Whether the team spreads out or stays together, again, depends on their opening moves, but everyone is scattered when it comes down to the last 1-3 people on a team.

Arena always seemed liike the random game you join and play for 10 minutes and then leave cause you have to go somewhere. Though now that we have koth, which kinda is same thing. The thing arena fails at tho is that if the team gathers, they camp, making it boring :| Thats why I prefer lots of paths, making people lost and separated and get eliminated one by one instead of in groups

I love having small, frequent fights. In arena players want nothing more than to make contact, have a quick duel, and reward the victor with some recovery time.

Actually, i don't like arena. I really hate that game mode. It just isn't fun for me :(

All of those things are very important to A good arena map but I like a team that stays together in a general area the most instead of just wondering around hunting down demos.. I mean enemies.

Haha true, but at the same time it's helpful, I guess. I mean now I just have to do everything in moderation, i.e. allow for small battles and large battles simultaneously.

That's right, you want to make a map with options.
Make sure it caters to people who want to group together while still giving the option to run around another corner and split up. Not hard, really, but something to break it up and even out classes.
