My first attempt at designing a ZI map might still be somewhat oversized, but I plan to fine-tune it in future updates. This map is still very much a work in progress, so I appreciate any feedback on scale or other aspects that might help improve the experience.
One of my main goals for the next version is to add dynamic weather effects, specifically heavy rain, as the oil rig is meant to be engulfed in a powerful storm during gameplay.
Basic Storyline (current draft):
The Red team is deployed to an offshore oil rig by an as-yet-unnamed helicopter pilot, who will eventually serve as the announcer for this map in the final version. The mission’s objective is to investigate the mysterious radio silence from the rig. Communication with the rig’s crew was suddenly cut off, and there’s growing concern that something has gone terribly wrong.
Upon being dropped off, however, the Red team quickly discovers the horrifying reason for the silence. The zombie virus has spread across the rig, killing the crew and turning some of the red team into hostile threats. Before they can respond, the Red team learns that their pilot is unable to return for extraction, as the risk of infection prevents any safe approach to the rig. Now trapped, the Red team must fend off waves of infected team members while figuring out how to survive and possibly escape the rig.

- Stormy Weather: In the next version, I’m aiming to add a rain effect
- Narrative Voiceovers: Eventually, the helicopter pilot will serve as the in-game announcer, providing updates, warnings, and bits of backstory as players progress.
- Environment Updates: I’ll be tweaking certain assets and textures, including lighting and shadowing, to emphasize the bleakness of the setting.
