Todays work.

Some more detailing, finished the basic shape.

Tommorows work, detailing the fuck out of this.

Obviously I have ignored various parts of the basic shape (sonar, rudder, propellers) because they'll be underwater, and never seen!

1)As for making it a playable model, I don't really have any intention of that, the decks are too open, and I don't really want to go to the trouble of making it work as a gameplay piece.

3) I don't see why not, if I recall it just needs to be scaled down 16x for that?


Additionally, me and flame were joking around about something last night (I don't even remember), and the idea of a ship in a bottle came up, so expect one of those too lol.

A 1,000,000 poly(or triangle?) ship in a bottle WIN!

Started working on the low polys, starting with the turrets, then various important details (shit like lifesavers, doors, etc)

Anyway, if normal maps show up in source as well as they do in this render, then my high res model won't have been a waste of time, if not, it'll just have been practice.

Alright, so over the last few days I've finished UVing it all.

As it stands now it'll probably be 3 textures total, one for the body, one for the details, and one for the turrets, which I may or may not make more of.

As for the triangle counts, I'm looking at about 6000-6500 maybe more, maybe less, but I won't know for sure until I put it all back together, which comes after me finding a skinner to skin this.

Some of the detail geometry will need to be duplicated, some a lot more than once, so that's what's going to inflate it higher than the 5200 it's at now.

I could, but I'm not exactly an expert on that, you'd probably be better off asking Acumen or someone with more experience in source.

All it's really waiting on is a skinner, and until I find one to paint this thing, my hands are pretty much tied :[
