This is the first mapping contest I've ever tried to organize, so help with rules, regulations, deciding prizes, setting a reasonable deadline, etc. would all be greatly appreciated.

What is it?

The idea of this contest is simple in theory. All you have to do is make a CP map. But here's the interesting part: You cannot make a 3 or five CP "Push" style map. I'm sure you're wondering "Well, what can I make, then?" The answer is that you can set up the points in any way except the above stated configurations. You can experiment with the position of the points, the number of points, and even what order they're unlocked in. Below will be a picture of an example layout to help you see what I mean.

What are the rules?

No traditional 5CP or 3CP "Push" style maps (ala Granary) are allowed.

No layout of any other kind used in any official map is allowed.

KoTH and A/D do not count as unique layouts. They are different game modes entirely. This is a CP only contest.

Things to Keep in Mind.

Team Fortress 2 allows up to 8 control points in a map at any given time. Use this link if you want to change the CP HUD : http://tinyurl.com/kc54mpg

When is the Deadline?

As it stands the deadline will be January 1st, 2014. If enough of you complain that five months is too much or too little time, however, the date can be pushed forward or back accordingly.

What's the Prize?

Unfortunately I don't yet know, as I really have nothing to give you. If anyone has any ideas on this one, let me know (directly giving people money, however, is not an option for me). What I can promise you, however, is that the top participants will probably get something cool for their hard work (maybe). No matter what you'll get a finished map and enormous bragging rights, and that's what matter's, right?

How Will the Contest be Judged?

All participants will be placed into a poll that will allow the community to decide for themselves who the best mapper is.

Here is the above promised layout example:

Some other ideas include:

A triangle shaped layout with each team having one point on the triangle and a neutral point on the third point.

A "Rush" map with only neutral points.

A neutral point in the middle and team points in each corner of the map.

A "Two Point Push" map with no neutral point in between the two team points.

Points above and below each other in a highly vertical map (i.e. the points are close to directly above each other, and the teams run up and down various staircases and such to get to them).

I'm really hoping all of these changes will make this contest more clear and more viable and will consequently result in more entries.

I'm still looking for ideas for prizes I could give out to the winners. Any ideas are welcome.

I'm unclear about what the rules of the contest are entirely.

Oh boy.

Anyone know how to set up a HUD that displays eight CPs in a square with a hole in the middle?

The contest should probably disallow any configuration in an existing Valve (or official community) map. Except MAYBE Steel.

takabuschik and Headhunter09 completely understand the idea of this contest. I will add his link to the OP to add some clarity and direction to the contest. I will try to add some other clarifications. Quick question to takabuschik: does the method outlined in your link allow you to have multiple neutral points in some way?

No longer. All configurations used in official maps are no longer allowed. Also, Dustbowl and Gravelpit are A/D maps and so are completely off limits.

rip contest, you should never change large factors in rules when someone else needs to point it out - it shows bad organisation etc, who says there is some stuff someone uses but you don't see it fit so you just "change a rule" and make that persons work useless?
