Turning players to gold

My map has a pool of molten Australium as an environmental hazard, and I was wondering if it would be at all possible to turn players into gold statues when they die. Is golden wrench/pan damage special? And how would I be able to make a trigger_hurt inflict that special damage?

I believe that is impossible without a plugin, death animations (like the golden wrench statues or the cow mangler dissolve effect) are set by the game's code probably according to the weapon owners and both the wrench and the golden wrench deal the same type of damage.

In lieu of the molten Australium idea, I decided on crocodile-infested waters using func_croc instead of trigger_hurt
