Hello, i'm making this my first official public announcement for an upcoming mod for tf2, named: Toy Soldiers. I am aware of a quake III mod named them same, so hopefully i haven't missed any current projects for source with the same name.
The concept is to achieve a minimum of 4 and a max of six maps all in a rat map style. I hate using the rat word, because i'm trying to achieve an "old school toy soldier scale, ie the little green guys. The tf2 engine can handle a larger area, and would like to go farther than what has been achieved before. The first map i'm working on is the Master Bathroom. The main area exceeds 1,000,000 square feet in actual scale. I'm looking to get each room in a typical house as a seperate map, but have them tie in to how the maps are played in a default rotation. This way you don't feel as if you are playing each room in a different house. As well as the rooms tied in, i have started the heating ducts which would tie in as well. You could not enter another room, while in an individual room, but the layout would match.
I want to initialy have the beta maps offered to an existing version of tf2, so all the client needs is the mappack. After this point it can go on to a more complete conversion, when that is ready for beta we can update and correct the beta mappack offered previously. This way achieving a good timeline, and to allow player feedback to make elements refined.
I welcome anyone with the ability to contribute to this project.
Aside from this mod being developed, i also hope to achieve a resource for rat mappers outside this mod, in the way of a prefab source directory to make things easier for other projects in this scale. Anyone that contributes to this mod will be credited fully for any contribution made. I do not glory myself in saying i made something, i enjoy knowing that i was able to get the ball rolling. I am a member of the TF2 Mappers Group on steam, you can find me through that source, or on my tf2 site: HERE
Here is a few pics, the logo based off of Hasbro's toy logo, and some early shots of the bathroom. Keep in mind these were taken on the second day of work, i'm well beyond this point now, click here to see some pics and the logo i have set up.
More info coming soon. And yes more ctf will be involved.
