how prominent must novint references must be for CTF contest?

i'm a little iffy on the rule about including novint reference material. in particular is the part saying "in clear sight" as this can be quite subjective in interpretation.
i've not seen any definitive discussions regarding this. for example: i'd consider having something in directly infront of a spawning player to be in clear sight, whereas it has been stated that being in the spawn room is not adequate.

specifically, i have novint falcon console stations scattered around both bases in my map. one in a room adjacent to a flag room (in a corner), one where 2 paths into the base converge (top floor of base, in the centre of a line of other tf2 console models), and one in a room that is a connector to one of the paths into the flag room. <- this is mirrored in both bases, giving 6 novint references inside the gameplay area.
(there are also falcon consoles in areas outside of the gameplay areas of both bases, and one in the spawn room.)

are these prominent enough to satisfy the requirement?


i guess what i'm getting at is: how in-your-face does it have to be? i've gone for a case of making the novint content in the map be in appropriate places in regards to the map's theme. it's there. you will see it, but it's not going to try to climb up your nose to get noticed.

I think it needs to be in gameplay space and not tucked away in the back of a detail room.

so are you saying: it has to be in a room that a player can get to? it has to be seperate from everything around it and be in-your-face in terms of standing out?
also what is a detail room? is it an area outside of gameplay (e.g. behind a window), or an area off to the side of the main paths that gets more attention/detail given to it?

i have 6 novint station models that are in areas that are not a spawn room, and players can get to. none of them are in a deadend or an area that exists for detail.
however, i've not placed a novint falcon station in the maps central area, nor have i placed any in the flag room itself. but i'm starting to wonder if that's what i have to do to qualify.

i'm not trying to cause a ruckus here, but i just want to make sure i'm not disqualified for a trivial and easily remedied issue like this, especially not after all the work i've put into this contest.

Something that a player can see during normal gameplay. Not on a side-route that's a dead end so no one ever goes down.

If you can see it from a gameplay area during normal gameplay, is what I'd say.

so a novint console in the middle of a line of regular tf2 consoles wouldn't be too subtle then?


i guess i'll have to wait to see what YM says on this, since he's the guy in charge of the rules and stuff.

It needs to be 'clearly visible' by that we mean you don't have to stop and look for it.

Hidden away in a detail room section is ok as long as you can easily glance at it.
The console blended in with a load of other consoles is ok.

In an unrelated note:
Since the very early days of halfacre when I became aware of your existance I have looked at you avatar every single time and thought "what the fuck is that guy on"
And now I see it. its a headcrab with the spy's head and knife. Its not even a proper crab. And why the heck does it have the aperture science logo on it :/
More than just a bit weird.

I still would like to know if the "no spawn room" rule applies still, since I have a row of computers in each spawn that can even be jumped on, and the Novint console is in the middle of the row.

I have a feeling the answer is "yes, that counts", but better safe than sorry.

from the contest rules:
Map must include this content: At least 4 posters or models for the Novint sponsor in clear sight (i.e. gameplay areas, not the spawn room) and any 1 of the fine TF2M posters. I realize there are only 4 Novint items right now and you might feel a little limited. More will be available in the near future. If you wish to make your own, please send me (YM) a PM so I can confirm them. All the premade content you need can be found here

crab of spycrab -> well a headcrab has the word crab in it too
and finally
"aperture science" and "aperture spycrab" same 1st letters.
well, there you have it. a small glimpse of the insanity that is my mind :rolleyes:

Just make sure they're plenty visible with a strong preference of in-front of the player so if you put anything in a spawnroom and want it to count (you can of course have more than the limit, shock horror) make sure it's towards the exit or the spawn, visible as the player leaves in a hurry.

i actually have 16 consoles across the map. though 2 of them are not really worth counting, as they're away in a non gameplay spy-techy computer room.
