How do you add music to a map?

how do you add music to the map. like how it is done in mario kart or bestinclass. id like to know because I think it be cool to make an underground club/dance area for my duel_street map.

pretty sure you have to use soundscapes...but other then that i know nothing...

so...id also like to know this as well, hopefully in more details then anyone would ever need :D

If you're interested how a specific map does something, you can always decompile it from bsp to vmf with vmex and then load it in hammer.

Of course you mustn't treat a decompiled map as one big prefab for you to pick and choose bits from, decompiling is for learning purposes only and all brush/entity work must be your own!

I'd think you could use a func_button brush to trigger it, and tell ambient_generic to play the music every time the func_button brush is damaged with a PlayMusic output activated with OnDamaged as the trigger for the event..

My answer: you don't.

Purists like myself wont play such maps :p

I've thought about music in a map too, it's be a soundscape coming from a radio prop.

I'd stick it in the spawn room, so every time you spawned it's be there. That way you wouldn't be bugged by the music through the whole map.

total mark - for me as a game purist thats absolutely the best way, it means the mapper can force himself on the players in a subtle way without being imposing, thats what its all about really, getting what you want into your maps without annoying any players.
