As cross-posted at Interlopers...

PackBSP is a program for packaging custom maps for the Source engine, and I don't have any icons or anything.

So I figure why not ask if some actual right-brained artiste types have any ideas.

The program needs :
  • Splash screen (Roughly 500px wide and 300px high)
  • A sidebar for the "Help:About" screen (Roughly 130px wide and 200px high)
  • A program icon (16x16, 32x32, and with 64x64 as a bonus)

Credit will be given in the Help:About screen.

This is an "absolutely no hurry at all" kind of request. What'll probably happen is in two or three weeks I'll go: "OK, I thiiiink it's done now... Maybe just oooooonnneee more beta..." and then remember this thread ;)

In terms of color-scheme and style, the existing icon set is using the silk icon set and the color-scheme is mostly dependent on the user's system schemes.

I'd like to get something which has Source-engine/Steam vibes.

I don't know If you will like this, but I wanted to create something simple. EDIT: Just like Ravidge :D

Not sure but this is what came to mind... Think a gray gradient splash would be appropriate.

I should mention the #1 place the icon will be seen is 16x16, so that's the critical size at which it has to be... iconic. (And preferably fit with the "Silk" icon set linked above.)

Splash screens blow. if this application takes long enough to load to need one to hide the load time wtf are you doing to your program!

Please don't add any non-loading wait time in before you can actually use the program. I dont want time saved by using this instead of pakrat to be wasted needlessly on a splash.

No, it isn't that kind of splash screen. It's a splash screen for the unavoidable Java VM startup time, which is the exact same amount of time-delay users already encounter with Pakrat. By the time any code I've written activates, the splash screen will be long gone.

Thanks for all the great ideas, guys.

I'm leaning toward something like Boylee's (with that little Source corner dangly thing) by with something a bit more "package"-like like megawac's box. (Looking at that image I find myself thinking fo the companion cube, but that'd be a bit too portal-specific.)
