Maybe a melting snow/dead grass combo?

Also, where'd all these Minnesotans come from? Invading my territory...

Well well well...I'm always not sure :p
For sure the snow could be more original but with snow I haven't all the models I wanted to create a true snowy ambient. I think I'll continue with what I have now BUT I don't exclude any change later ;)
Thanks for your advices!!

I think I like the summer version better, but I'm not sure.

Maybe you could do a summer meets winter theme :p?
Like with the Blue part being the colder part of the map with still a lot of snow from the winter, and the Red part with a more passed over into summer feel.

I witnessed this strange scenario on a vacation in Norway once... it was really beautiful.

Here are some news screens :)

Remember, it's still in a very WIP stage. The first screens is near than a good visual but the other are far to be finished :p You'll understand.

Enjoy! (I hope it's not too dark...tell me please if it's the case)

Yeah, playable areas look ok for the most part. A good rule of thumb: When lighting your map ensure that player team colors are easily distinguishable. One of the keys to gameplay in TF2 is visually identifying friend/foe and class.

It actually looks like you've got some nice detailing going on. Even though you're probably within the realm of safety as far as gameplay is concerned, you may want to consider brightening things up just a tad so your work can be appreciated. Judging by how big and bright the moon appears to be in your first screenie I think you could cast some relatively bright moonlight around and create some nice contrasting areas of light and shadow to highlight your architecture.

All right, I have a bad bad screen at home so I can't judge in the right way the brightness. I took the map here at work and I think like you...on good screen it still too dark. I'll work that ;)

Thanks.

Hey,

I come back...I was busy these last days but I worked on the lighting and...again...transform the map in a snowy night theme! Ahaha ^^
I think I can say now that I have what I want. Is it much brighter now?
Are these white trees seems good and not too unrealistic (I hope not)?

And...please don't tell me you don't like the snow xD

Personally I don't like the road being so much across the hill rather than strait up and down it. The grade is too steep for construction vehicles to drive in that direction (they'd tip over).

I like the style and lighting of the map, but it could use some warm lighting, possibly in indoor areas to counter the somewhat depressing outdoor area.

Hey !! I'm not dead ^^ Just busy with works, wife, friends and other things...the life! :)

Well, to answer at what you said Re1wind, I'll use more warm lights into the red base...I look forward about a cold atmosphere in all the map except for the red team to show the difference and a contrast between the two camps. Middle is more like a neutral area where the red's begin their implementation. I don't know if you see what I try to do.

About the road Draco, I worked it and it looks much better now :) Thanks. It's not finish again (you'll see in the screens under my text) but the place where you gave me your critic has been reworked ;)

So now, some new screens...as usual it's a W.I.P. and it's just some screens of an area...so you'll have be patient to see the rest...

(I have to concentrate my time on this contest! GO GO GO!!)

Gotta confess, was kinda sceptical throughout your progress but these last screenshots really improved your idea. I really like that !
I just think the lighting is something you could play around with. Some more contrast/lighter areas would do the map benefit, imo.
I really hope you'll go the extramile :)

Well I continue with some new screens...I have to work much quickly, the end is near!!
So here, you'll certainly find that my roofs are poor with snow and it's normal, it's just textured now! I'll make a model as Valve did for koth_viaduc if I have the time. If not I'll put some displacements.

For the rest, as usual it's in W.I.P. (mostly in B) ;)

Hope you like it!

It looks and feels like it would be too dark in places, but upon careful examination, all of the gameplay areas themselves are lit pretty well. Gives it a nice "dark night" feel.
