Past 72hr Jam Entry Botkiller Keychains
designing and making botkiller keychains
I apologize for alting but I could not find the credentials to log into my previously created account here https://tf2maps.net/members/yotts.24103/
I currently am on an extended break from tf2 and videogames due to irl events, but today marks 10 years on steam and tf2 and I saw that the 72 hour jam was going on. I have some tf2 projects that I wanted to make, so this was a great excuse to make a smaller one.
5 years ago I made a botkiller keychain. The idea has always stuck in my head, but the one I made had some design flaws. The keychain was way too bulky to put on my keychain and the loop on top of the head was way too fragile, and ended up breaking in just a few days.
Today I am going to make a better one.
I started with the in game models and I modified the files to make the back half of the head flat, and smoothed out some of the triangles.
I then supported the models and threw them on a print build
I could have ended here, but we can make a much better keychain. Printer resin is brittle, and it clearly is a plastic model.
After washing and curing the keychains, I made a basic dump mold for the figures. To make the keychains look and feel metal, I decided to cold cast the keychains. Cold casting will have a thin outer layer of metal on the outside of the parts.
The raw keychains looked good, but we can polish them to look metal
After polishing, I was done.
