Anyone got any recommendations? I have no idea what i'm looking for really, i just don't want it to overheat or crash as much as this one.

  • About £500-800, or that equivalent in dollars.
  • Basically all i need it for is games and internet and whatnot.
  • I don't give a fuck about 3D or W8
  • Yeah, it has to be a laptop. I need the portability. That said, i just need to be able to carry it home or across the flat, so it needn't be, like, a netbook.

Every HP laptop I have ever had was a piece of shit that ran super hot. The last one I had, was an HP TX2500, (read: second generation of the tx series) and it still had heat problems from the first generation, and fried itself for me, and many other people, conveniently just after the end of the warranty. So avoid HP like the capitalist plague it is.

You're going to have to be specific about what games you want to be able to run, and whether you want to run them beyond lowest settings.

Also, Lenovo is an excellent manufacturer, look into their Thinkpads.

My Samsung RV411 laptop doesn't overheat though. And it works preety well with all my games like Portal 2, CS: GO and TF2. Default settings, though.

I had a Dell about one year ago and I can confirm that. It overheated 11 out of 10 times.

I've used an Asus for the last year and a half and put it through more strain than you can imagine, still working as if it was new (or close to that, anyway).

I had around the same budget as you, and I ended up getting a pretty sweet gaming laptop in the Lenovo Y580. I waited until a black friday sale, used a special Barnes and Noble login to save extra money, and bought a Y580 with an especially high-resolution screen.

I paid $950 after tax. (~600 pounds)

To clarify, I was looking for good screen resolution and powerful gaming, but didn't care much about trackpads or portability. My laptop is portable, but it's very large, with a very hi-res screen and the ability to run games like Skyrim or FNV on ultra with good FPS. Also, for some reason, the speaker system is incredible. I highly recommend it.

Side note: it was like $1300 without sales.

Not bad, right? As far as i could tell, runs Bioshock Infinite and Far Cry 3 on reccomended settings. Absolute upper price range though.

Despite being super turned off Asus by the macho crap, Bloodhound has recommended this: http://www.notebooksbilliger.de/not...fcampaign_id/5c22d4acf05cb3c8bda1aba1c6df0ab0 which looks similar to the sony one, but like £400 cheaper. I like.

Lenovo stuff all seems like £300 more expensive for the equivalent. I get that better construction is good but i flat-out don't have the money.

Lenovo frequently has sales where they cut about 200$ USD off the price, so if that sounds like it would put it more within your price range I'd say save your money and wait.

Asus is probably fine too though, I've never really used any of their laptops, but I've been using their parts for my desktop for a while and have yet to have any issues, so up to you~

Also if you haven't already, you should check out all the models you're interested in on notebookreview or some other site, and google any problems people are having, just to avoid any surprises.

One thing to take into consideration if you decide to buy an Asus laptop is that they usually come with a ton of crapware installed. The difficult thing is to determine which programs are essential and which aren't - one thing to look for is a physical switch to turn the wireless on, mine has an F-key mapped to the wireless and it doesn't work because I deleted one of the programs that configures the f-keys....
So just be careful.

All brands do. That's how they subsidize their products. The only way to get a clean install of Windows is with a home-built rig.

Wrong.

Just take a windows cd and use the key on the bottom of the laptop to reinstall windows, and then get all your drivers from the manufacture's site.

Thats also not always true. They ship a special dvd for some laptops, right with it. Thats something like a special edition, and the code on the bottom is only working with that version.
