    The mapname is obviouslly temporary.

Gametype: payload - red as attackers and blue as defence
    Setting: industrial harbour

    layout
    screen1
Yea, I know that's an awefull lot of containers.

Cool start, but seriously, don't do a container map. They're really horrible for fps. Replace them with brushwork, neat buildings would be cool, something other than containers

That screenshot is the last stage. Don't worry the map will have plenty of variation. But the last area is a container depot, containers awaiting for shipping. I 'll probably convert lots of them into brushes and I 'll try to vary them more with some new textures

Looks like your breaking optimization's golden rule, too, is your map in a giant box?

one indea to try is to import all those containers into your 3D program of choice and strip out all the inside stuff leaving just the outward facing stuff. then put a big brush inside it to block vis.

Yes, but I am far from inexperienced ;)

I 'll have my modeler look into that. But for now I 'll keep it the way it is, the area is going to have many changes in the progress so its unless remodeling the whole thing over and over again.

I don't agree with this, many people want to do it I think just to be different.

It goes against the norm, which is more bad then good. There is no advantage to swapping the teams, only the disadvantage of confusing people.

Unless you have a good reason, I would suggest going with Blu as attackers.
It wouldn't be too hard to change the map to a Red shipping yard.

I personally don't mind at all, why can't red attack for once? If the theme is all blue and red wants to destroy blu base, why not? :)

Truly this is just a very narrow look at the game. It opens up alot of options to have blu as the defenders, like, for instance, having actual blu architecture instead of just the same boring red which has been done to death. If you want industrial settings you go with blu, why would blu be attacking a blu base? Thats just silly. If the people cant handle a simple fucking color change then there really is no point to mapping for this game anymore. I cant believe that someone would even complain about this. It's RETARDED.

To be honest i agree with spacemonkeynz. Red is defence and it's what people expect. Sure it's only a colour change, but if it is, then someone needs to do it properly. If maybe we see more maps with Red attackers that are well colour schemed then sure. I hate to use the "Valve does it" card; but that's what they seem to have intended for us.

I'm torn on it personally but for the sake of what Valve have given us it only makes sense. I'm not sure why you feel the need to get so worked up as to swear and call things retarded and silly etc it's only his opinion. He's not going to ruin the game for you.

The map looks very nice so far, a break from all the cliffs and mud :D Look forward to seeing more.

So, you are saying that any attack defend map has to be styled in red, exactly like valve does.. just because, valve did it? Personally i like to see more. The reason i get worked up over it is this is something that someone would actually rate down the map on, and its something that doesnt deserve that.

The problem with switching teams will be ignorant players who ignore both the map info screen and goal message box that sits on the screen for 10~20 seconds after spawn. Some of you laugh about this, but I've tried several different TF2 game ideas myself with a wide variety of different TF2 players (not just the TF2maps regulars) over the past few months and 90% of them ignored both these messages and kept asking me how the game idea was suppose to work. I'm not saying this reversal won't work, but be prepared for a lot of aggravation.

It's hard enough getting most of the TF2 player base to try custom maps as it is, they don't like leaving the familiarity of the stock maps.

I think it's something that's so simple to do that there's no reason not to, especially since it creates less confusion for players. Yes, players should read the map intro at the start but most don't. As a result, many good maps fail because they had confusing game modes or switched things from the obvious. Even though most of us agree that it SHOULDN'T matter, the fact remains that it probably WILL matter.

um... warheads like that don't go off if you explode them with dynamite...... Its a basic safety feature most have.

We 're planning to have a few torpedo's stacked on the cart and open up the hull with a detonation device rigged to it. The dynamite is just additional, but its hard to call TF2 realistic :p
Still have to add a dispenser and make the design more suitable to stand on.

Did you even read what i said? I'm saying if someone wants to switch teams they should do it right. Most of the time i hear someone saying they want blu defending it's because "they just want to" or simply "because it's different" without considering what it means.

I also said that i knew the defualt response to my comment would be to flame me about the "Valve does it so we should follow suit" being a load of crap and you still did it, apparently ignoring my comment afterwards about how it would be acceptable, just if someone did it properly. I'm only saying that currently Red defending serves a purpose, simplicity and understanding. Additionally if it were to be any different Valve would have done so. That's not the case. I'm not saying it's set in stone but there is a subtle reason for having one colour defending and the other attacking. So if you're going to switch them make it worth while, but at the end of the day Red defending only makes sense, whilst Blu defending will confuse a hell of a lot of people, (just as brandished said, even when you tell them what they're doing).

As for maps getting rated down for stupid reasons, i agree; but people should be less concerned about how people rate their map on a website and more about how people enjoy playing it on a server. When aim and surf maps get 10/10 compared to "real" maps getting 3 or 4.. who really cares about ratings anyway?

People can rate my Avanti map 0 on websites all over the net for all i care, if i see it in respectable servers and being enjoyed i'll be more than content with myself.
