Time to post my WIP, now that I was finally able to get some screenshots ready. No beta yet, just wanted to get this up for some suggestions. This is my first real attempt at a map, and my second version of this idea. First was scrapped because it sucked.

Trying to combine the theme of 2fort with those of Dustbowl and Goldrush... so basically a desert map with a spytech base.

Now for some screenshots. Very incomplete. I'll try and get some sketches I have scanned and uploaded for a better idea of what I'm trying to do.

Looks like you have a good start.
To me the transition from mineshaft directly into intel room is strange.

I'd think you'd want some kind of conrete doorway structure leading into the spytech base, not just a wood pillar. Something that looks like an airlock, otherwise the intel room would be full of dust.

I was thinking about adding the blast doors, but I think it would just look weird. I want it to look like the control center was built into an old quarry, not scratch built for that purpose.

Here's a quick sketch of what I want to do with the outside:

Yeah, I understand that point. But still if they were gonna build a hi-tech base they would build a proper door on it. They just wouldn't not build a door because it was in an old mine.

I agree with Sgt Frag here. That desk and chair belong to a secret Spy corporation, he wouldn't want the sound of clinging mine carts on rail on his evil scheme planning room!

Looking good, but right now it's a bit hard to gather a proper overview of the map from those screens. If you have some kind of overhead map or something, that would be great.

I'm worried about the huge, open area in the front, though. I hope you're not gonna leave that open. >.>

EDIT: And why is it called Borrow? Are you just borrowing the Intel in this one?

I'll stick the blast doors in and see how it looks.

Hmmm... yeah, I didn't take an overhead. Oops. I'll get one soon.

I won't leave it the center area that open. I hate being sniped as much as anyone. I'd like to point out that right now, from the main battlements windows, you can barely see the edge of the map half, so if you can make it halfway, you won't have to worry about snipers. But I'll definately add some cover out there.

Borrow comes from Borrow Pit, which is like a Gravel Pit but where stuff other than gravel is mined. Only good synonym to quarry I could find, since there is already a ctf_quarry.

    Make it ctf_betterquarry :p

But Borrow sounds good enough, in style with Youme's Hoodo I think you will need to explain it though.

Well, yeah, it's not a common phrase. I don't have any better ideas, but I'd gladly take suggestions.

Anyway, added the blast door, surprised myself with how awesome it looks. Thanks for the suggestion, Frag.

Yeah, I don't really want to do something huge for my first map...

Okay, here is an overhead of the half:

Do you plan to mirror this for the Blu side? If so, it is indeed small, I`d say you need something neutral and pretty big in the middle area to make it a little larger.

But it`s looking very good, and the Blast doors are indeed very nice!

The Blu side will be a 180 degree rotation of it. I'm thinking I'd like to add some more stuff to the tunnel on the top, it's very simple compared to the other one.

For the middle, I was just going to do a trench across the center with a bridge. If you think it really needs to be bigger, I think I could expand that trench into a deeper, wider mining field and scrap the bridge. It'd be more of a sniper-free bottlenecking area, I'd think.

The tracks running along the cliff (on the bottom) would go across the trench. So really, something like Gold Rush stage 1, right outside the blue spawn, but make that area a deeper valley.

    EDIT: Sketchpad time

So the center would be a deathpit...

I can see problems with Ranged Units camping the Trench, Since they can just hide somewhere above it, And Kill anything that goes in.

Blast door looks just right. Maybe put some buildings in the center to provide more cover. Or maybe a dump truck setting. Like Axii said, I see snipers having a field day.

I like the trench idea for no mans land. make sure people can't see right into the base through the battlements (in terms of optimisation). I'm not sure if you have it blocked there but just incase. You want people to have good performance:thumbup1:

Instead of the trench I would put smaller mining buildings (Like on gravelpit) into the central area that divide the area a bit, making it a bit safer to cross, but with an "arena" in the middle...

It was probably done in Photoshop, GIMP, or Paint.NET.
